Winter Olympics! What should I not miss?

The Opening Ceremonies are tonight.

I have 2 Tivos with DirecTV, each records 2 channels, and each will record at least 100 hours (would be more, except I’ve got things on there that are Keep Until I Delete). We had just gotten the Tivo prior to the 2002 Winter Games, and I recorded just about everything major, then dubbed down onto VHS, about 12 tapes worth. I ended up giving the tapes away, and I don’t want a repeat of that obsessiveness, but I do want to Tivo whatever seems important.

Skating and Downhill are my favorite things to watch so I’ll be Tivoing all of that, but what should I not miss for anything? I’ll consider anything but Hockey.

Does anyone know of a handy Games schedule? I see 4 different channels will be carrying coverage in America (NBC, MSNBC, CNBC and USA). I started a Wishlist of both “Olympic” and “XX” and when I chose the “Auto-record Wishlist programs” I could hear my Tivo screaming for mercy. There were so many “Cannot record/will overlap” that I couldn’t make sense of any of it, so I backed out of doing that. However, going through each listing separately and choosing Record This Program is tedious and time-consuming. I assume MSNBC and CNBC will mostly be carrying things like Hockey and so I can disregard them altogether, but something interesting might be on.

USA has a daily program called Olympic Ice which I guess will be all about figure skating, showing previous highlights and upcoming events, something like that.

I’d mainly love to have a schedule of MUST NOT MISS events. It wouldn’t be the end of the world if I missed the Pairs Figure Skating Short Program, say, but I’d kick myself if I missed the Ice Dancing Original Program. Ideally I want to see everything skating and downhill-related.

I cancelled my subscription to TV Guide when we got the Tivo, but I remember now one of the good things about TV Guide, the pull-out program guide, with grids showing what’s on when.

Anyone else into the Winter Olympics? I’ve always liked them more than the Summer Olympics. They always have better scenery, with the exception of Greece and its to-die-for scenery. I can’t wait to see the mountains of Italy, since I’ll never get to go there in real life.

Ok, that’s twice in one month you’ve had your simul-thread stomped.

You need a better agent.

Gotta relax with the exclamation points. That was a contributing factor with your Oscars! thread.

Also, a little self-centered here.

Notice my thread: “What olympic stuff are YOU psyched for?” You gotta give some attention to your fellow man. . .let him know that his ideas are interesting to you.

Whatta you got? “What should I not miss?” Before I even open the thread, that sounds like it’s going to be a lot of work. I gotta figure out YOUR preferences, and maybe even come up with a day & time for you so you don’t miss it.

Also, you can’t underestimate brevity. When the whole thread’s intention is stated in the mouse-over, that’s the first step in that thread taking it’s place in the middle of the podium.

You know what shows up in your mouse-over? This:

Look at that mess.

Numbers, crazy words, abbreviations, commas, weird capitalization, parantheses.

Who’s gonna open that up? It looks like a question on an algebra test.
