WinXP Desktop Display Question

Not sure how to phrase what I want to say so please try to follow along. In WinXP on the desktop there is a way to set the subtitles of the icons so that the background is clear. By that I mean that the words are just there and you can see the wallpaper, not the color of the background. Well, I recently switched to a new monitor and seemed to have lost that functionality. The subtitles now appear with a block of color around them.

I did install some software that came with the monitor and I am thinking that may have gotten rid of that but before ido a restore I just want to make sure I have my settings correct.

I can’t seem to remember how to set it so the block is invisible. Anyone know what I’m talking about? Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance.

Simple.

Right click ‘My Computer’ and select properties. In properties, select the Advanced tab. In the Performance pane, towards the top, select ‘Settings’. You will now have a ‘Performance Options’ window show up. In the scrollable part of that window, go down to the bottom until you find a selection for ‘Use dropshadows for icon labels on the desktop’ and make sure it’s ticked.

Be sure to hit ‘Apply’ on that window before exiting. ‘OK’ everything else that got you to that window and you’re problem is solved.
