wireless music question -- Sonos specific

Stereo tech question here. Gonna do some rewiring of my stereo and speakers, etc, in my house. Wanted to run speaker cables to 2nd floor to have music there, was looking for a way to control receiver from 2nd floor as well.

Install company recommended a new product called Sonos (sonos.com). Looks perfect for what we want… I can control the stereo from any room in the house with the remote, and add boxes that connect to speakers anywhere in the house, no need to run wires all over the place. (Boxes are wireless via wifi, speakers hard wired to boxes… wireless speakers blow. This solves the problem.)

ONLY issue is price, Sonos ain’t cheap. I’m probably going to go with it anyway since it does exactly what I want it to do, but looking for similar alternatives that other folks may know about.

Basically want to run any sound from my receiver to other speakers in my house. And need to be able to control what is playing – CD, ipod, internet radio, celestial radio, etc – from any room in the house, or at least from a 2nd floor position away from the receiver. Any good products any of you can recommend?

Take a look at Bang & Olufson products, they have been doing this for over thirty years and may just have what you seek.

Expensive though!

Have a look at EOS - they get good reviews for providing reasonable fidelity at a significantly cheaper cost than other remote systems. I looked into this a while ago and the only thing that turned me off EOS was that the remote had limited functionality .

Yeah, good leads. But not as fully functional as the Sonos. Ah well, worth checking into.

Another option is to get a Roku Labs device. It is not exactly what you describe. It will get music that is stored on your computer and play it. You can put different devices in different rooms. They have something to connect to a stereo receiver and another devices that are standalone and include the speakers etc. In this day and age it is more expensive to send speaker wires through the house than to just put a receiver in each room you want music.

I have the M1000 at home and it works great and is easy to setup.
