Wisconsin Supreme Court 2025

I envy folks who are done with political ads – but for folks in Wisconsin (and us in neighboring states who get WI TV stations) are starting to get bombarded with ads for the Supreme court.
It is technically non-partisan but it is obvious which party supports which candidate.
In 2023 the balance shifted to 4-3 toward the liberal wing (by a pretty wide margin, though it is a low turnout election) A liberal justice is retiring which means it could switch back. Here is ballotpedia summary:

I’m not generally familiar with Wisconsin politics but I remember watching that election the last time it came up; and wonder how it’ll come out this time.

I haven’t been following. I don’t remember if it was WI or NC where the court switched back and forth and as a result the laws about gerrymandering changed.

The federal supreme court refused to address gerrymandering, so the states took it up. I think I’m thinking of NC where the state supreme court overturned gerrymandering, but then another GOP justice got elected and decided that gerrymandering that benefits the republicans is suddenly legal now.

Is gerrymandering abolished in Wisconsin now? My understanding is that during the worst of it, the democratic party had to win 60% of the vote just to break even on the number of seats in the state assembly. Democrats were winning something like 50% of the vote but only 35% of the state assembly seats due to how bad the gerrymandering in WI is.

Looking it up, it looks like WI state legislature overcame some gerrymandering recently.

Yes, basically after the court determined the districts were unconstitutional - the legislature accepted one gov Evers proposed, because they were afraid the court would impose one even worse for republicans.
