As you may or may not know, WillSantini, from our very own SDMB. is currently stationed in Iraq. I recieved a letter saying he and his unit are in Fallujah. He said "As you can imagine, this is not the happiest place on Earth.
So, even if he is a dog of a Marine(I was in the Army!), perhaps some Dopers would wish to send him their well wishes. I could print them off and send them along in another letter to him.
So, for God’s sake Will, keep your head down, or I won’t send you and the buddies any more cookies!
On behalf of myself, MsRobyn, and Aaron (aka Bomb Bay Doors), we hope things are going well for you over there, we thank you for doing what you’re doing, and if there’s anything we can do for you just let us know. I know it sucks, I was over there last year. Just keep your eyes open and your powder dry and make it home so I can buy you a beer or two (or three :)).
Be safe, and God bless you and your fellow Jarheads.
Hi, Will! I am awed by the sacrifices that you and all the others over there have made for our country’s sake. Thanks so much for having the courage to go over there. I certainly hope that you get to come home safely right away! I’ll be looking forward to seeing your posts here on our board again soon.
Take care of yourself out there, man. Wishing you all the best from over the pond. It’s just such a shame you’ve gone over now. I mean all of those chats with Cecil we’ve been having. And you know we had that party on the new SDMB cruise liner.
I have several boxes of paperbacks I was going to send through Operation Paperback, but I would rather send to someone I know even distantly, if they are wanted… Right now, my boxes contain mostly SF with a little military fiction, and a few thrillers. I also take requests.
Baker, can you tell me how to get my boxes to WillSantini & Co.? My email is current in my profile.
I am at work now and don’t have the mailing address. But I will be home in 2-3 hours, so anyone who wants to mail stuff can check back. I just put “WillSantini” as the addressee, and it got there. It might have helped that I wrote SDMB on the package in several places.
Anything over a pound has to have a customs declaration, but they put that on at the post office when you go to mail stuff. I mailed a letter myself yesterday morning and asked what kinds of things folks there want but aren’t provided. If I end up hearing back about that, I’ll let folks know.
Being a native San Diegan, I have had many friends go over to Iraq- many there still. There are so many of us back home thinking of all of you! I am sure you are missing your friends, your family and familiar landscape… stay strong, you will be back in no time.
Be Safe. Take care of each other. Thank you for doing so much for so many!
May God Bless you, WillSantini, yours is the spirit that gives hope to mankind’s troubled plight. Maybe one day it might be my great honor to shake your hand. Meanwhile please accept these words as my heartfelt thanks.
Just wanted to let everyone know that today I got a short email from WillSantini. He said he received my last letter, and was sorry he hadn’t got back on it, “but they try to keep us busy over here”. He told me he should be back to the States in about a month, and to have a cold one.
I’ll be at a Dopefest in Kansas City this weekend. I’ll make sure we raise a glass to WillSantini, and wherever you all are, you can too!
