She emailed in her writing samples this morning.
Now we wait.
So here’s a goofy question - in her cover e-mail she asked the guy to either e-mail or phone her to confirm that he received them.
Of course it would be too sweet if he e-mailed her back right away.
Well, its the end of the business day, and no reply.
So how long do you wait before you figure he didn’t get them, and then what do you do?
On the one hand, I know it is crazy to expect that something happened and the e-mail didn’t go through.
On the other, it would totaly SUCK to get this close and then lose the job because of a simple communications fuck-up.
Of course you figure any attempt to recontact the guy will make you look like an annoying idiot.
As would faxing or mailing duplicates. . .
Meanwhile, as I type this she is over at her school, at a pre-semester staff meeting for her classes that start next Monday!
I’d KNOW there was no chance of things working out if they were running too smoothly!
I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want acknowledgement of an e-mail.
Depending on what kind of spam filters they use it truly could have gone astray. I’d give him a day or so to acknowledge it and then follow up. So, maybe if she hasn’t heard by mid-day tomorrow, she should follow up.
Fingers still crossed.
Well, Thursday passed with no acknowldgement, so this a.m. I brought the materials in and faxed them. (We are permitted to use office equipment for reasonable personal purposes.) This way we have a confirmation of transmission (tho that will be of no use if they say they never received it after they hired someone else.)
Just to prove things could never go too smoothly, I sent it and received the confirmation - for 2 fewer pages than I intended to send! So I sent it again, and saw the fax pick up 2 pages at a time. Stopped the transmission and tried again - same thing. So I sent it successfully from another machine and notified folk to call in a service order on the first machine. Fourth time’s the charm! Love it when technology conspires to make you look incompetent!
Waiting sucks!
