Wish me luck-surgery tomorrow

It’s not brain surgery, thankfully. Yesterday morning, on the way to my car, my foot met a piece of sidewalk that was sticking up. It was not a pleasant meeting. I went down and my left hand met the ground coming the other way, and was forced back into my arm. Basically I broke my wrist badly and have to get a plate put in tomorrow. The doc said there’s a good chance that hand will have arthritic problems, but there’s not much I can do about that now.

Naturally, it would be my left hand. What with me being a lefty and all. :frowning: :smack:

Sending good thoughts and prayer your way. Is this your first surgery? Don’t worry too much; I’ve had four major surgeries on my left arm and legs and I’m just fine. Good luck, photopat!

Best of luck - sounds like things will go well

Ouch! I’m so sorry that you’re going through this, but just think… Soon this will all be over and you’ll be in a big bandage thingy and the nice nurse will be putting happy meds in your IV.

And you’ll have an excuse to be lazy for a while. Always a good thing. “I can’t reach the remote; could you please change the channel for me?”

And don’t be ashamed to really ask for help when you need it. I hope you’re feeling better soon!

Good luck, Photopat! I’m so sorry you hurt your wrist. I have various kinds of joint problems, and I always feel for anybody else suffering from them.

Best of luck, photopat. We’ll be thinking about you.

Can we all sign your cast?

Would that have been micro-surgery?

I kid! I kid! Good luck with the surgery. I hope everything works out okay, and you are not prevented from posting or any other strenuous wrist activity (nudge nudge wink wink)

Sending warm thoughts your way.

Thoughts, prayers, good vibes headed your way.

I’d high-five you for luck but I think that would probably not be a good idea.

Good luck, pat. Thankfully it isn’t in a place that could really do harm. Sometimes surgeries turn out bad even when they work, but not just in the hand.

Good vibes and prayers headed your way, photopat! I’ve had lots of surgeries, and while general anesthesia is a little weird, I’ve come through just fine (okay, I’ll admit that depends on who you ask  ).

Here’s a leftie checking in to wish you all the best. I hope you not in too much pain and you had better get that hand fixed, we can’t afford to lose lefties.
Good Luck!

Wishing you a quick recovery, Photopat. I’ve got a plate below my knee. Remember not to overdo things just because the rest of you feels fine. Coddle yourself a little.

perk You fell? On the sidewalk? And had injuries? Incurring large medical expenses and loss of wages and possibly loss of enjoyment of life?

Got a lawyer yet?

WHAP Down, paralegal, down! THUD

Ahem. Seriously, I hope everything goes well and you make a full recovery!

Hope it’s going well!
Come back soon!

Best of luck, milk all the sympathy and coddling you can! No stiff upper lip schtuff, wallow, baby, wallow.

Abbie IANAL or PL, but I had the same instinctive question.

Thanks for the kind words, all. I’m back at work doing as much as I can. I had the surgery Saturday evening, right after a guy who cut tendons in his arm with a mitre saw.

It’s already starting to feel better, but tomorrow I have a follow up appointment to determine whether or not I need a full cast or just the splint I have at the moment.

I’ve been wondering about my legal options. I don’t like frivolous lawsuits, but this doesn’t seem like it would be one as long as i don’t ask for a ridiculous amount of money (though I haven’t yet decided what constitutes “ridiculous” ). I spoke to somebody at Evanston Streets and San’ yesterday and told her about my accident. She didn’t ask for my name, but this morning the spot where I tripped had been filled with asphalt, so at least some good may come from this.

Wait’ll you get the hospital bill.
That’ll give you some idea of ridiculous.

Glad you’re doing better!

Oh, good thing you can do that right-handed. It’d probably sting left-handed, even with just a splint (and you don’t want to :smack: yourself with a cast…).

Good luck and all that.
