Well, I am at the hospital

I somehow managed to break a glass and slice my wrist. The amount of blood was scary and my bathroom looks like a crime scene.

The paramedic said it’s pretty deep. I had a brief glimpse of the injury and it made me think of practical effects from 1980s movies.

I’m waiting in the ER right now. I’m worried about nerve or tendon damage. My ring and pinky fingers have issues. Everything else is okay, all things considered.

Yowch! Hope everything turns out okay. :people_hugging:

Good luck. Don’t be tough. If it hurts let them know.

Yikes!!

How scary! I hope you have a full recovery and it doesn’t take too long to get there. Best wishes!

Not exactly a fun weekend. Hope there’s no permanent damage.

I have seen a nurse and got some Tylenol, for all the good it does. Now waiting for the doctor. The nurse did speak with the doctor and he did not seem concerned about the numbness and lack of movement. :crossed_fingers:that all is well. At the very least, I’m hoping for a cool scar…

Ouch! Wishing you a complete and speedy recovery.

What they (posters above me) said.

Please give us updates, good (hopefully) or bad.

Yikes! But on the bright side, this is the kind of injury that tends to look much worse than it really is. When I saw the thread title I feared something much worse. Just as an FYI, when I got some very bad abrasions on my lower leg due to a fall, my doctor thought it would be a good idea to have a tetanus shot because I wasn’t up to date. You might mention that to the doctor.

Keep us posted on your recovery. If they put in some stitches there may not even be a visible scar.

It’s kind of bad. While I was waiting the injury started bleeding and it was worse than the original incident. I have been stitched up and placed in a cast. I will have to see a plastic surgeon to deal with nerve and tendon damage. There will be rehabilitation and I might not have a full recovery.

Agreed.

Many years ago, when I was working as a waiter, another waiter was at the service bar (where drinks are made for people sitting at tables). A rocks glass slipped off the edge and the waiter, out pure reaction, went to grab it and instead managed to smash the glass against the edge of the service bar. The glass shattered and a big chunk plunged into the palm of his hand.

I was there and wow did it look scary. Blood all over. Needless to say he was rushed to the hospital where they fixed him up and he was back working a week later (still with a bandage on) and in not too much time he was fully recovered, albeit with a nice scar to show for it.

As an aside, the ice holder was just below where he smashed the glass. It now had blood and shards of glass in it. Cleaning it out was a serious pain (it had to be cleaned and cleaned and cleaned again then cleaned some more).

I hope your recovery is speedy with no lasting effects!

Facing your bathroom to clean will be the next scary thing.

I will say that blood looks good on my bathroom tile.

Wow, that’s worse than anything I’ve ever experienced even with a deep cut. I cannot even understand why they felt that a cast was necessary! Hope you have a full recovery, and please keep us posted!

The cast is to limit motion. I was about to leave the hospital and I started bleeding again. I’m now waiting for the plastic surgeon.

It’s a good sign that you can still cross your fingers like that.

Best wishes,

mmm

Pure speculation on my part: IANA medical anything. …

Fingers and especially wrists both get a lot of movement. No matter how hard we try not to move them, it just happens. And they have a wide range of motion. If the docs had to go way deep inside there and sew stuff back together, those muscles & whatnot will heel a lot better if not being pulled on all the time. Immobilizing the wrist would help with that.

However stout this cast is, I also bet it’ll be installed a lot fewer days than a cast installed for a broken bone.

Back to our OP:

Ouch!!!11!! Here’s hoping for minimal long-term damage.

I once helped a friend clean up after his GF attempted suicide (and failed FTR) by slit wrists. The amount of blood in that bathroom was astonishing. We all sorta know that blood is real stainy and a little bit can go along ways to covering anything. I’m here to tell you a lot can go a very long ways; even farther than you think. But we got the place looking decent soon enough.

Good luck on your lesser cleanup. Look at the bright side: it coulda been an even bigger job.

The plastic surgeon is coming and is planning to operate today so I am stuck in the hospital .

Prayers! If I could offer anything else, I would.

While it may suck to be stuck at the hospital, at least they are doing something now about it. In my non-professional opinion, that’s probably better for recovering your pre-injury dexterity.

Is this your dominant hand?

Please tell me you’re dictating these posts!

And I have two words for you: plastic cups (for your bathroom).

Mend well.
