I apparently need to read that part again, but I thought that Voldemort broke free, disapparated, and then possessed Harry from whereever he ended up. When that failed, he returned to the ministry to save Lestrange, which is when Fudge et al. saw him.

Though if Voldemort possessed Harry, why didn’t he just kill him? I’m sure he could have while taking over Harry’s body. You may be right, but I saw it as Dumbledore putting Voldemort in a torture device (“There are things worse than death”… or whatnot) and Voldemort taking advantage and possessing Harry because of their link. I thought that it clearly indicated that if anyone else tried to kill Voldy, Harry would die too.

At the end of Goblet of Fire there is a passage when Dumbledor looks triumphant for a moment when he finds out that Voldemort used some of Harry’s blood in his re-birth and that it will transfer some of Harry’s power/protection. I’m guessing this will be the ‘out’ for the kill-one-kill-both thing. Now that both Harry & Voldemort have a part of each others power, maybe you can kill one of them & the ‘part’ that is with them will subustitute for the death of the other.

Great theory. I think that may indeed what may happen.

Now, I’m not an expert and have only read each book once and such. Am I insane for thinking that in the end it will be Neville who kills the big V, sacrificing himself, and Harry will turn out to have been a heroic red herring who becomes Minister of Magic or whatever?
And of COURSE Harry and Luna end up together-- can’t be Ginny. Too incestuous. She ends up with some other heroic figure.
I think the half-blood prince is some new character, possibly someone historical that he has some special mode of communication with or some other connection like the seer-thingie gadget. Maybe old Salazar of Godric, but probably an until-now unmentioned figure.

I’ve looked over old threads, and I’m still standing by my predictions:

I think that Petunia is going to turn out to be a squib. Now, we have it on her say so that her parents were non-magical, but there’s nothing in any of the books that indicates that Harry ever knew either grandparent(heck, we don’t know if Mr. Dursley even knew them). It’s not too hard to believe that someone who was jealous of her sister’s share of attention might pretend that since she was normal, only the sister wasn’t; you don’t have to feel inadaquate if you manage to convince people that the other person, not you, is the abnormality. Even her early comments about how proud her parents were to have “a witch in the family” could be just a dig against Petunia; they were happy to have someone else with talent, since she didn’t. It’s easy to omit the word “another” from your rant, after all.

I was surprised by the lack of romance between Ron and Hermione. I thought for sure after the ball last year, and Victor’s return to where he’s from that Ron might make some sort of move. Guess not! Fine by me, I think it would be more realistic for Harry to end up with her anyway. Eventually he’s bound to tell someone for the 100th time “she’s not my girlfriend” and actually stop to wonder why not. Ron and Hermione bicker a lot, but it feels like someone just correcting to be right, than snipping at someone because you’re interested and don’t know how else to express it <shrugs>

Petunia isn’t just a muggle. I’m still sure of it. Squib or a witch who didn’t finish at Hogwarts (or did and has never told her husband)…something like that because she has too much hatred of magic not to have been burned by it in a way more personal than her sister being a witch. And I still don’t see Ron and Hermione together. I’m not sure she’ll end up with Harry or Ron, but Ron seems the less likely of the two to me. still.

For a DaDa teacher, I think the most likely suspects are:
arisu’s guess- Dumbledore; Tonks (since everyone but me seemed to find her interesting, so her character is bound to reappear and develop more) ; Or perhaps one of Ron’s oldest brothers so there will be new can’t get out from his brothers’ shadows angst.

I also wonder who will be returning to school in the fall. Surely someone is going to protest that the children of death eaters are at the school. If werewolves don’t make suitable teachers, someones knowingly connected to Voledmort’s followers are bound to make waves. I’m sure Dumbledore will proclaim them all welcome, as in the end of book IV, but there will be upset parents, right? And what about Fred and George? Are they really going to get through life without having finished school?

Neville only does really well in herbology. He doesn’t have the grades to be an auror, and I doubt he can make it up in time to get the needed NEWTS now since only two years of school are left. I’m thinking it will be revealed in either book 6 or 7 that his keen interest in herbology is because he’s convinced that there’s a cure for his folks amongst the plants. I see him as headed in the direction of wanting to become a healer rather than an auror. He might be good a DaDa, but he’s not the temperment for it - he’s the type to be more concerned about cures than revenge. There’s something shakespearian in the juxpostion of his and Harry’s characters…

I don’t see Ron and Hermione ever getting together. It’s like far too many real-life friendships among people growing up: they sort of kind of have feelings that never are really explored. I’m not even convinced that Hermione has any feelings for Ron. Or even Harry. I suspect, however, that throughout books 6 and 7, Mrs. Weasley is going to push Ginny towards Harry, hoping that they’ll take a shine to each other, thus allowing her to adopt him as a son-in-law if not son.

I’m really curious about Harry and Petunia’s future relationship. Now that Harry knows that his aunt has actually been keeping him safe from Voledmort, will he finally show a bit of gratitude? He may not have received a loving upbringing, but he might well be dead if she’d dumped him on someone else. Maybe they’ll get along (at least show grudging acceptance of each other) when he goes home, and not just because his aunt and uncle were threatened by members of the order.

As for this book, I’m most interested in seeing what happens to the last three things there. We should find out the last one in the opening chapter or two of this book, at least. I’m hoping we find out more about Neville’s plans too, and it’s inevitable that part of the book will go into potential loves of Harry.

JKR confirmed on her site that Petunia is not a Squib a little while ago, I’m afraid.

I’m sticking by my belief that Petunia is a witch who failed out of Hogwarts fairly early (1st or 2nd year). Though her parents were almost certainly Muggles, getting 2 magical folks from a Muggle family isn’t inconceivable - it might even be likely that if one sibling is magical, so are the others. Has there been any reference to any of the Muggle-born students at Hogwarts having non-magical siblings?

That’s a good question, JerH. I believe that Hermione was originally going to have a sister but that idea was scratched. I don’t remember if the sister was going to be a witch or not. We don’t know much about the muggleborn’s families for the most part, unless they go to Hogwarts(like Dennis and Colin Creevey). Did Justin Finch-Flenley(or whatever his name was) mention any siblings when he let slip that he was muggleborn in CoS?
