wives' funny dialog about husbands

I was watching the 50s tv show “Burns and Allen” today and the episode had this dialog.

Harry von Zell: George is really violent about not wanting to sponsor that ballet. But Gracie, listen, if you want to do it, do it. Did George ask you about buying a season ticket for the baseball games?

Gracie: Why, I didn’t even know he was selling them.

Blanche: Gracie, as Mr. Von Zell says, if you want to do it, do it. Who is George anyway, that miserable little -

H: One moment, Mrs. Morton! You may be quoting me right out of a job.

G: Blanche Morton, I’m surprised at you. George is my husband, just like Harry is your husband, and you know as well as I do that a husband is the boss.

B: Yeah.

G: And whatever our husbands want us to do, we do.

B: Well, that’s the way it’s always been and I guess that’s the way it’ll always be.

(Pause)

G&B: (laughing)

G: (laughing) Their word is law!

B: (laughing) They’re our masters!

G: (laughing) You getting a new dress for the ballet!

B: (laughing) Why sure!

(B&G exit)

H: (to camera) I don’t know why they’re laughing. I’m laughing because I’m single.
