The worst syndication butcher job was the third episode where Johnny tells Herb that Jennifer is the result of an amazing sex change operation. They cut out that initial reveal but left the rest in. Confusing as hell to those who had never seen the episode before.
Amazon needs to fix its rating system. A bunch of one-star reviews from before the release based on conjecture and other stupid stuff.:dubious:
No, I watched it previously, but I’ve noticed in the past that Antenna TV will fill up an episode with lots of commercials for some inexplicable reason. You may have just had bad luck on that particular night, because I’ve seen both parts pretty much intact.
Nowadays, only 555-0100 through 555-0199 are reserved for made-up numbers – the other 9900 possible numbers in the 555 exchanges are available for use. I can’t find exactly when this change was made – probably sometime around 1994.
Wasn’t at the first Costco I tried near my work over lunch but they had maybe six of them at the Costco on the way home. So now I’m $58 poorer but one box set (and bootleg karma) richer.
I’ve wondered about that for years! Did Bailey get a daydream in the original episode? I’ve only ever seen the syndicated version but wondered if there would have been enough time to fit another daydream into the episode. What was her daydream about?
For what it’s worth, this scene is mostly intact. They play some faux-Pink Floyd that sounds close enough to “Dogs” and don’t mention the group by name but Carlson asks about the dogs barking and he still asks Johnny to play “Pigs on the Wing” while holding a copy of Animals. Unless you’re a big Pink Floyd fan, you’d likely never notice the difference. Seemed to be an honest effort to preserve a great moment in the show despite blank refusal for the rights.
When Jennifer and Johnny pretended to be married to fool an old boyfriend from her hometown, he sang that cool little diddy “You got the knife, I got the gun. Come on boy we’re gonna have a little fun.” Was that an original for the show?
Watched it last night and I agree: they did a good job restoring that scene. As I am a big PF fan, I could tell, but they did a close approximation, even as far as having similar dog barks. Much better than the butchery they did to the scene in the first DVD release.
