With a very few hold outs WKRP is now available with the original soundtrack.
This is FANTASTIC news. What a series.
In the four-year series they have the rights to over 100 classic artists secured. This is a must-buy! Christmas anyone?

I don’t accept gifts from strangers.
Fortunately, you’re not a stranger.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Loved the show, but hated the DVD release of the first season with generic rock.
$120. Eesh. Somewhere down on the ‘if I won the lottery and decided to massively expand my library’ level.
And because someone has to say it; “As god is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.”
Just checked, cheaper on Amazon:
Already own bootleg copies.
It will be nice to see Les put on his toupee to the original “Hot-blooded.”
Also not on the first DVD set:
Arthur: Oh. Is that Pink Floyd? Do I hear dogs barking on that thing?
Dr. Johnny Fever: I do.
I have some bootlegs but the video on them is for shit. I can’t watch them on anything larger than my tablet without it looking like some impressionist painting. I’d like to be able to watch it on an actual normal sized screen again.
One of the Amazon reviews from late October mentions it being $59 from Costco. They don’t have it on their website but I might drop by and see if it’s on the shelves (or tables, bins… whatever, it’s Costco).
Now you’ll have the opportunity to financially support the show and musicians by actually buying the DVD’s rather than ripping them off. Lucky you!
Any word if the episodes are complete? Antenna TV has been showing episodes recently, and they are a complete mess. While some have the original music and some don’t, many are butchered. Some beyond belief. For the worst example, in “Filthy Pictures” the entire con, with Ginger and Phillipe, was removed! The best part of the episode was cut, for who knows what reason. Other episodes lost bits here and there, set up for jokes were there but the punchline was removed, or vice-versa. So it’s not just the music that may be missing.
As me mentioned, I was Les’s toupee* with Hot Blooded, I want Ivan Popasonabitchi to quote “hold me closer, tiny dancer”, not “fancy dresser”, I want Pink Floyd back in “Turkeys Away”. I want Bailey’s daydream restored in “Daydreams”.
*In the most recent version I saw, the phone number was removed! Why is 555-MCHO (that’s 555-MACHO!) something that needed to be edited out?
Pink Floyd is one of the few bands they couldn’t come to terms with.
Possibly the funniest single scene in television sitcom history.
Pisser! Stupid Roger Waters…
Carlson: There’s something on here that’s called “Pigs On The Wing”. What does that sound like?
Dr. Johnny Fever: I don’t do requests.
They run a full 24 minutes, so I’m assuming completeness.
Here’s a good review of the new DVD release, with lots of follow up comments:
Bailey, mmmmmmmmmmm!
That episode was run in two parts on Antenna TV. It was an hour long as originally run, but split into two half hours for syndication. Did you watch both parts? Because I watched it and I do remember Johnny and Bailey running the con in the second part.
Interesting. The short version I saw was just last month. Did you see it then, or the previous go-around?
Yes it was two parts (one hour) when I watched it. The episode first half progressed normally, but the second half jumped from when Johnny starting to think up his plan immediately to him and Bailey presenting the photos and check in the bullpen. The entirety of the con was gone. My wife had never seen that episode, and I was eagerly waiting for the “good part”. And then, it was not there. It was weird. I think there were a lot of commercials to fill the missing time (we’d DVR’d it, so I didn’t get a commercial run time).
So this DVD “pressing” has MORE music and LES Nessman?
