WKRP in Cincinnati Back on the Air!

Does anyone know if WGN has shown the episode where Mr. Carlson comes into the booth and Johnny’s playing Pink Floyd’s “Dogs”? Carlson says something like, “Do I hear dogs?” and Johnny says, “I do…”

There’s a clip of it on youtube, but I don’t have the link handy, sorry.

But that was one of the great scenes to see Johnny just laying back, mellowing to the sound.

“Why don’t you ask Dog about his musical training?”

“All right, ‘Dog’, tell me about your musical training.”

“I have none.”

“That’s it for him then!”

I just don’t understand the logic of withholding the original music. If a fan watches the show and hears all the old music there is a good chance they would want to buy the full versions, music they had not thought about in years. In my opinion the artists are cutting their own throats.

In most cases it is not the artists themselves but the record companies that hold the rights and they are all to often guilty of corporate think where the simple and self-evident logic of what you posted cannot penetrate.

What are those little Mexican dogs called?

Neat bit of trivia. Dog was played by British musician turned actor Michael Des Barres, who returned to play a dj in the New WKRP in Cincinnati.

And whose wife wrote the definitive groupie memoirs “I’m With The Band” and “Take Another Little Piece of My Heart.”

Chee hoowa hoowa’s? Thank you!

And who replaced Robert Palmer as the singer in Power Station.

 I don’t do requests.

Giving this a bump to discuss the music. In the first episode aired on WGN yesterday, the one with the preacher who wanted to censor WKRP’s playlist, there was no music, but Carlson had the preacher (Dr. Bob) read out loud from the lyrics to John Lennon’s “Imagine.”

Then in the episode in which the DJ’s took a vote to unionize, Johnny played “Promises in the Dark” by Pat Benatar, then “Start Me Up” by the Stones. So they are using the original music that was in the first runs.

32 posts and no one has said it yet.

“As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!”

It had been reported that Jan Smithers was living here in Nova Scotia. That intel. is pretty old, but I am still looking…

At least I no longer have to worry about dispatching James Brolin…

This is because for all of us fans of the show, there is no need to say it. We all know it so well.
cochrane, thanks for the music update. That is good news. We should have last nights recorded, I need to check soon.

Almost like it was On Demand, they played both parts of the Phone Police this Sunday. We watched it last night. I love WKRP.

I watched a couple episodes this weekend, a two-parter where there’s a bomb threat at the station and Johnny and Venus are sent to the transmitter to broadcast. It featured at least two original songs, “Urgent” by Foreigner, and something by the Pointer Sisters.
