Pardon me for interrupting while the pros and antis once again smack each other with 2 x 4s, but could we not have a moratorium on the “WMD!!! I told you so!!!” threads until a given story has sat around for at least 24 hours? I mean, the ever faster pace of claims and retractions is getting to be comical.
Personally, the BM-21 story looks fairly solid to me, but, as others have said, possession of chemical weapons by Iraq does not automatically justify this war (guess now I’ll have to ward off a few of those 2 x 4’s myself).
Wake me up when it’s verified that this latest discovery is really WMDs – between the chemical arms factories (abandoned), the white powder (explosives), the toxic barrel (pesticides), and all the other we-found-something-odd-so-we’re-screaming-ANTHRAX! news reports that’s come out of this war, I don’t know what bullshit accusation I’m supposed to believe today any more…

Not sarcasm at all CR. So far as I know (and I read numerous articles on the subject and listened to the UN speeches) the French took the position that no WMDs thus far had been found and that the inspection process was working. Hence, no imminent threat and, therefore, no need for a US-led rush to war. In other words the same position held by most anti-war folk (myself included) on these boards.
At no point–so far ask I know–did the French say: and we also believe that if inspections are halted now and a war commenced forthwith that there is 0 possibility that some WMDs might not be found. Once again, same position held by most anti-war folk (myself included) on these boards.
It boggles my mind how many times this point has to be made in each and every thread on this subject.
Is there something about the pro-war mentality that includes either obtuseness, a love of fighting strawmen, or both?

So, like, you are saying that there is 0% chance that there are WMD, right? And even if there are, they don’t matter, right? And that you love Saddam, hate America and turn a blind eye to human rights abuses, right?
bluetrust, I asked for a cite on the French position on WMDs, which most certainly exists. It exists in hundreds of articles, and transcripts of speeches. I believe the poster to whom I was responding to have misrepresented the actual French position.
As you apparently have trouble following a simple sequence of discussion in the English language, and since nothing else about you stikes me as appealing, may I suggest that you go post somewhere else on the Internet? There are unmoderated message boards where people are free to make fools of themselves without anyone really noticing. Here at the SDMB, the bar may be set a little lower in the Pit, but you show signs of falling well beneath it.
If anyone can keep us updated with news as well, I can’t seem to find shit on anything.
