This guy seems a bit naive. Seems likely that this wolf was trying to chase down his dinner. :eek: There’s been several off road bicyclists and joggers attacked by mountain lions in California.

He better be glad the wolf mistimed his leap from the woods.

A Canadian man says he was chased by a gray wolf while he was riding a motorcycle in British Columbia – and he has the pictures to prove it.

Tim Bartlett, a mechanic from Banff, said the wolf darted onto the roadway and began chasing him June 8 as he was riding through the Canadian Rockies.

The tenacious animal managed to get within several feet of him before Bartlett accelerated.

Bartlett told the National Post that he decided to take his new bike for a spin and was doing just under 60 miles per hour when suddenly he saw a wolf dart from the treeline on the left side of the road and go in pursuit of the motorist.

‘I had to swerve and accelerate to get around it,’ Bartlett recalled. ‘I went forward about 100 meters [328 feet] and when I turned around it was just standing in the middle of the lane watching me.’

According to the biker, the critter was coming for him and got to within about 6 feet of his bike, forcing him to pick up speed.

Sounds similar doesn’t it? Except this poor guy was on a bicycle. Predators like mountain lions,cougars, wolves are attracted by motion.

At about 1:15 in the afternoon, an adult cougar pounced Click to see Linnell after attack on 40-year-old Dean Linnell of Pemberton, BC, as he rode along the Far Side Trail in the Crumpit Woods area, just outside Whistler, B.C., about 30 miles north of Squamish, knocking his bike to the ground and barely missing him with its claws. Linnell was riding with three friends on a training run for the upcoming Test of Metal ride. He was alone, in front of his group by a few minutes, when the cougar jumped from above and behind. Luckily, the cougar caught the back end of his bike, not touching him but sending him crashing off the trail. He went over the handlebars and hit a tree, with his bicycle landing on top of him. He had glimpsed the blur of brown hurling toward him, and his extensive experience in the woods told him it had to be a cougar, so the 5’ 8", 145 pound man was already yelling aggressively as he got to his feet–to do all he could to deter it.

I’ve been hearing about this. One of my favorite comments was “Poor wolf. These days a wolf can’t even stop to mark a tree before some human bastard comes along and steals his ride.”

A very large dog darted out of the woods and jumped right into my motorcycle. I crashed, messed up my bike and a lot of skin. The dog shook himself off and left. Mission accomplished I guess.

I had a coyote do similar here on the streets of Burbank, CA. It was after sundown and I saw a brown grey thing running diagonally towards me. My first thought was “oh great, a dog.” I unweighted the nearside peddle thinking I would throw a back kick if it got too close. It pulled short though. Perhaps it caught my scent or realized I was too big for it. Slowing down I looked behind me recognized the classic ears and bushy tail.
