[QUOTE=OtakuLoki] Sarahfeena, I think you’re likely erring on the side of generousity towards the woman you’ve mentioned: I think it’s unlikely that she took the time to think about the risks associated with what she was about to do. I don’t think it’s a spinal reflex to try to do something, but in a crisis situation a lot of people will focus on the first action that comes to their mind, esp. when dealing with a person or a close pet in danger. It’s hard to take the moment when you’re imagining Fido stuck behind a shut door with flames licking around his feet, to ask yourself whether you can realistically run in, get Fido, and get out, before the situation becomes hopeless.
Though, I have to admit, for people without firefighting experience, it’s also very, very rare for them to accurately judge how quickly a fire may progress. So, she may have made an assessment, but a flawed one based on ignorance of how large scale fires behave.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I agree with you…she obviously made a horribly rash decision, and was not thinking quite right. My point, I guess, was that you don’t run in there thinking you’re not going to come out, which is what the OP seemed to be implying.

I for one am glad alphabet Charlie could take the time out of his busy schedule of rocking back and forth, working his horizontal index finger up and down between his pursed lips and blowing out, and making picture frames from gold painted macaroni to entertain us.

That woman in the link was fully human, and I empathize completely with her.

Same here. Some of these threads about sacrificing x to save your child, or sacrificing the entire race…okay, those are a little scary. The situation in the OP sounds like an actually normal, instinctive scenario where someone would sacrifice themselves for their child.
I think it would save time if Too Long, Doesn’t Think just made a list of things that don’t send him into apoplectic fits of rage. I guessing that list has two, maybe three items on it, tops.

As it happens, I’ve compiled a rather comprehensive list of such things:

Feel free to add your own if you can manage to think of any, of course!

No, no, NO! Bad Sarahfeena! Don’t encourage him.

Ack! What did I say? I assure you that in no way was I trying to encourage TLDR, at least not in this thread!
If only she spoke English this never would have happened. How tragic that her obsession with smuggling breadboards onto airplanes kept her from her job with the Hispanic bloc at the restaurant!
Previous to this thread, there was always part of me that thought it was still within the realm of possibility that TLDR was really posting seriously instead of, well, humorously, but now I’m certain. He must be doing it just to yank our chains as part of some bizarre comic routine.
(I have to admit, the combination of that post, the history of the person who wrote it, and the article he linked to is pretty funny. I’m sorry, I don’t really know how to describe why, maybe juxtapositional humor or dead-baby-joke humor or Monty Python type deliberate obtuseness or something.)
Disclaimer: I am in no way saying that what happened to that poor woman and her daughters (and remaining family) is anything but awful and tragic. Nor am I applauding the op or denying that he is a complete shit for this. Just that he’s a funny shit. Please don’t flame me.
ETA: I just realized what his post reminded me of - comically over-the-top Onion-style pieces.
[QUOTE=TLDRIDKJKLOLFTW]
I hate - absolutely despise - the idea that once a woman has a child, that child becomes her world and everyone and everything else, including her husband, can fuck off.
This woman has abandoned her husband and other daughter in the name of the cult of the child; “I’d do ANYTHING for my children, even self-immolating so that my husband and other daughter grow up wifeless and motherless. ANYTHING. MY CHILD RIGHT OR WRONG.”

Misrepresenting a news item to this extent in order to post an inflammatory OP is nothing more than trolling. Not even very good trolling at that. This is (yet another) Warning for trolling.
Moreover, given the number of times we’ve warned you for trolling, TLDRwhatever, and the number of times we’ve held off warning you for likely but still borderline trolling, the general consensus among the mods is that you have no interest in stopping this behavior and it’s time for you to go.
