We know they can - but statistically, they “don’t” (by which I mean something like 90% of serial killers, arsonists, rapists, murderers… are male). Whether that’s because much fewer of them do it, or much fewer of them get caught at it (and thus logged in the stats) is an interesting question, but not one that can readily be answered.
While women are certainly capable of engaging in evil behaviour, men are convicted of a disproportionate number of crimes. The disparity in arrests for each of these crimes cannot be explained by police officers just paternalistically discarding the possibility of a female perpetuating the crime.

Right. Brand names of products, electric sockets, lamp/telephone/appliance configurations, speaking accents, handwritten materials showing the way the people write numbers; the LEAs are well tuned to those details. Sometimes they get even more complex – IIRC in the Disneyworld incident where they digitally removed the child from the scene, it turned out that some of the wallpaper/bedspreads/furniture were of a sort that is only sold to the hotel industry, and designs that were ordered mostly or solely by the DW resorts.
Plus yes, the helpful perp letting their face/identifying marks be clearly visible, and wearing their jewelry, is greatly appreciated by the authorities.
The international LEAs are alert to give top priority to material they have not seen before and that’s apparently recently produced and released (as opposed to known material from a decade earlier being reshared), because it means (a) the abuse is happening right now so it needs to be stopped and (b) the parties have not had much time to disappear.
Oh yeah, that’s probably the graver error. It is possible to react too strongly against it though, in claiming that men and women are equally likely to engage in evil behaviour.
