Soon criticism of feminism will be banned on all social networks.
Too many young men are starting to believe they are the ones being subject to gender discrimination. Now UN is going to take drastic measures to stop antifeminist propaganda.
Seem to be based on an idea of feminism that is not necessarily correct, but I do think that the women in question bring up some interesting points. To me, feminism is very simple, it basically means that you understand that we live in a society that was created with the man as the norm, which makes it unjust towards women, and to take the stance that this is not OK. I’m pretty sure that the women would agree to these statements:
Women should have equal rights to men
Women should be paid equal wages for the same job
Women should be protected against gender discrimination
If they do, then as far as I am concerned they are feminists.
You do realize that there is no direct connection between what you’re saying and reality, right? The UN doesn’t control the internet, nobody in the world or in that article has proposed banning criticism of feminism, and the UN is not going to take any drastic measures to do anything.
Literally all the three things you said are untrue and not even supported by the right wing opinion piece you just posted.
What seems to have happened in reality is that the UN Broad Band Commission have worked on the issue of “Cyber Violence against Women and Girls” and come to the conclusion that there is a lot of it. Which is just freaking undeniable to anyone who’s actually been online. The report first describes its’ findings:
Then it makes a few KEY RECOMMENDATIONS:
Now let’s contrast this to what you said. There is NOTHING about “criticism of feminism” here, the article is about women being harassed and threatened.
What they put forth are a serious of recommendations that people who actually can do something about it can choose to follow. The UN has no authority to impose this on anyone. In no language on the planet earth could having a meeting and then issuing a paper with recommendations be considered “drastic measures”.
You are simply put completely wrong, and what you’re saying is not even supported by the right wing opinion piece that you linked to.
No, an irrelevant group of impotent UN bureaucrats and feminists issued a report vaguely suggesting that we block some right-wing criticism. Like everything else from the UN, nothing will happen.
Based on what most of them have written, I’d say that most of them appear to be feminists who have been given the wrong impression of what feminism is. In the majority it looks to be a pro-sex, anti-male-hater movement rather than an anti-feminist movement.
Granted, I’m sure that there’s genuine anti-feminists mixed in among them, but that does not appear to be the majority.
Almost correct. Everything you said can be considered valid except the “right-wing criticism”. Unless you think that threatening women is a form of “criticism” that is somehow exclusively “right-wing”. I’m sure there are assholes who have problems relating to women in every part of the political spectrum.
Every poll that I’ve ever seen on the subject reports that the great majority of women are not feminists, according to themselves. Obviously choosing not to be a feminist isn’t the same thing as being against feminism, but anyone who’s followed the culture for the past several generations knows that there have always been a large number of women who are against feminism. So plainly the women posting on this particular Tumblr are not the vanguard of a totally new social phenomenon that’s never been seen before.
…the question was is there “A growing backlash against modern feminism?” I don’t think this sentiment is not new, and I do not think that it is growing. But thanks for your insightful response to my insightful response.
