Well, it’s not so much that scotums are icky. It’s that scrotum-out-of-context is kind of icky. A scrotum peeking out of a pair of shorts with no warning - ick. Scrotum with penis of happy naked man lounging about - yummy goodness.
I have no qualms about male nakedness. I like it quite a lot. It just has to have the right context.
To quote a friend of mine, the good thing about having a hot tub (or, in my case, a friend who has a hot tub), “is having greater odds of having naked people around!” Of course, he was talking about women and I’m talking about men, but it still applies.
I like seeing naked men, and have since puberty. At first it was curiousity; now it’s simply tied into my like of men in general. I don’t think I’ve seen a man naked in real life who could pass for a male model, but I have enjoyed the sight of them, nevertheless. That includes penises and scrotums. You guys are better looking than you realize, you know.
I think phouka got it right. A scrotum on its own, peeking out of a pair of shorts is not appealing. A scrotum attached to a fellow getting into a hot tub is. A scrotum attached to a fellow who is getting into my bed (if I ever get to that point again!), well, as the saying goes in some circles I move in, “Oh baby, oh baby, OH!”

Judging by some of the responses here from female Dopers, it seems quite a few of them don’t have any problem at all looking at naked men.
But you’re definitely right that there is a taboo about male nakedness, or partial nakedness. I mean, have you SEEN the shorts that men have to wear these days? They’re not even really shorts, they’re more like cropped pants. Basketball shorts anyone? Same with trunks, and just about any kind of athletic apparel. When the movie Chariots of Fire came out, we all thought the knee length running shorts of the 1920’s looked funny. At that time most men worked out or did their running in short shorts that were hardly longer than what the women were wearing.
But nowadays that’s all changed, and our gym shorts usually reach at least the knee. I for one find it a lot less comfortable.
I think a big part of this issue is the question being asked. I remember a thread from about a year ago where the question was posed as “ladies, do you think men’s privates look silly?”, and the overwhelming response was a variation on “you bet!”
Now that the question is, “ladies, do you like to look at naked men?”, we’re getting a lot of “you bet!” responses. People will jump in with “me, too” responses a lot quicker than “no” ones.
I suppose the “privates” situation works both ways. As for most males, naked women are a turn-on for me, but seeing woman’s naughty bits without seeing the rest of the woman doesn’t turn me on. But seeing the whole naked female body, including the pubic area, is very definitely a turn on, and if the naughty bits are covered, then she’s not naked.

OK, I’m the one who started that Pit thread about the scrotums. Now, god help me, I don’t want to be known as The Girl Who Hates All Scrotums. I don’t at all. What I don’t like is seeing random people’s squashed scrotums as they try to “go over the wall” so to speak. Scrotums are a body part I can only enjoy when I enjoy the whole package, so to speak.
Honestly, there aren’t too many men I’d love to see naked. However, the ones I do, I’d love to see ALL of them, all over.
