Sadly, I’m not your man, but I still seek your help.
I’ve been using Gillette Arctic Ice deodorant for several years now, but they recently changed their formulation, and frankly I don’t like the smell any more. I am, therefore, in the market for new deodorant, and I thought I would do an informal survey of what women like their men to smell like. I’m not putting up options because there would be far too many, but if you care to name names and/or general smells (lemony/pine/rancid cheese), that would be much appreciated.
Mr. Horseshoe uses the Arm & Hammer deodorant with the dark-green label. I think it’s called something generic like “Fresh” but it smells pretty damn good.
For the hippies out there, Tom’s has an aluminum-free deodorant line, and their “Apricot” scent is surprisingly nice. A good unisex option.
Try not to smell like a horse. Also, not a deodorant but still, stay the hell away from Drakkar Noir. Jeebus.
I am not a woman, but I have gotten compliments from women on my scent, and I personally love the stuff, been using it for a few years now. It’s High Endurance Red Zone scent “Pure Sport.” The type is “High Endurance Solid” I think but it’s really not solid at all… think white gel.
Unscented, please. Some of us are extremely sensitive to scents. A sneezing fit can surely ruin one’s mood. I won’t get on a rant about scents and such
I too vote for the unscented deodorant/anti-perspirant. I like a person to smell like his clean self.
Possibly TMI: in the throes of passion I have been known to apply tongue to that area. Nothing is worse, in this case, than a mouthful of chemical/aluminum. Just be clean, and I’m happy.

My boyfriend uses an Axe spray or a stick deodorant that I’m pretty sure is unscented. I prefer the unscented stuff, but I actually like the smell of Axe, so I do like it when he uses Axe bodywash or some other scented soap because the scent is much less overpowering than the spray deodorant.
I like guys who don’t use scents much stronger than Ivory soap too. I know that aftershave is supposed to smell nice, but most of them smell way too strong. Mildly scented deoderant is fine, though.
Unscented is the best, although I also like the freshly scrubbed, soapy smell as well. However, a faint hint of Old Spice and sweat always make me take notice (and not just because of the Old Spice guy).
Old Spice is nice, but it reminds me of my dad and therefore does not turn me on.
My boyfriend uses Dove, which he hides from his guy friends because he thinks it’s too girly, but I like it. It’s a subtle, clean smell that’s not too overpowering.
My roommate goes through about 1 bar of Irish Spring a week and uses Axe bodywash and probably some Axe spray too. His girlfriend lives in his lap.
On the other hand, the sweet boy I lust after washes with Grandpa’s pine tar soap and uses the same unscented Mitchum deodorant that I use and I think he’s just dandy. I do tease him and tell him that he smells like George Brett sometimes
I think it just depends on the woman.
If my boy started using something that had a scent, and it didn’t outright offend me, I’d probably dig it and it would become my favorite smell ever, and I’d spray my bedsheets with it. I am not crazy.
I am a 20-something male and this is what I use and I also get complimented by women when they are close enough to smell it. Which is also kind of a downside, it doesn’t emanate very far from me apparently and usually a woman is already very comfortable with me to be near enough to me to be smelling it.
I have been told on several occasions that my Old Spice smells nice. I also use the High Endurance Red Zone scent “Pure Sport.” It’s subtle, which I like, because I hate people that marinate in scent.
That’s how it’s supposed to be! I don’t know where people got this idea that they’re supposed to inflict their scent preferences on everyone within the nearest city block, but truly, you aren’t. If someone can smell you from several feet away you’re wearing too much.
