Well, you are probably not mining everything you read for sweet precious nuggets of potential offense.
But you thought my “white knighting” was “crazy” when all I wondered was whether dissing beehive hairdos would have got as much grief. So forgive me if I don’t go with your judgement over what’s shrill or precious.
I honestly thought that starting this thread in IMHO, rather than the Pit, made it clear that I was only speaking for myself. I’m sober now, and I still think that that should be clear.
ETA: You may not know that the title of the thread is automatically prepended to the first post. The way you quoted it, I can see how you would think I was stating an absolute. But you’re actually quoting the thread title, followed by my actual post. And “That’s all” was intended as a Gumpish “…that I have to say about that,” not “… and no disagreement will be brooked.”
Hair discussions somehow always strike a nerve with me. I think it’s because some men have VERY strong opinions on it, and it comes off as them trying to claim some proprietary access to my hairstyle decisions. I don’t mind “I prefer long hair,” but I do mind “Women, please don’t cut your hair, it looks hideous and terrible and totally ruins my fun at picturing you naked and that’s what really should matter.”
And it does get that way, because a lot of guys have some serious hair fetishes going on.
Women don’t have strong opinions on beards, mullets or pink polo shirts on men?
Do you see a bunch of women posting, “Men, you look horrible with your mustaches!” type threads around here?
For me, it’s not that it’s offensive. Everyone’s got a crazy opinion. It’s just that not every drunk-and-stoned opinion needs to be expressed. Low-effort OP’s are rarely well-received.
I’m glad the OP understands why he got the reaction he did and I’m glad that he’s been such a good sport about it. I wish others could be as intelligent and stop acting like someone’s balls have been chopped off or something. If you want your dick rode for just going poopy in the potty, go to MPSIMS. There are a lot of {{{{hugs}}}}} waiting for you there. But around here, posters aren’t afraid to give you their opinion if they don’t like your opinion. This has been the way this forum has worked since I’ve started posting here.
I’m not tough enough for imho. Lol.
I don’t get to quote myself often, but for the huggles that the men must need to declare pronouncements unfettered, all I can say at all the utter wild-eyed bewilderment is another… “Bwahahahahaha!” And since I easily bored of Dio’s disingenuous bullshit because it was so tiresome and played, I’m also stepping out of this so that these poor buggers can bray on unabated in their obvious and easily daunted opinions. I’d hate to harm those delicate little hot house flowers further. So, you may now return to pretending “My laws, I just don’t understand you silly little women folk and why I was only speak in’ mah mind!” Enjoy.
You bored of Dio’s stuff so much that you can’t stop talking about him. I’d say “bwahaha” if it wasn’t so played out.
We are sorry that while the rest of us get it, you just don’t.
What’s not to get? Many/most women are sick of being judged on their looks so a negative comment on a particular hairdo brings all that resentment up in some of them.
I think we may be edging dangerously close to getting caught in an “I can give my opinion if I want!” feedback loop.
Everyone can give an opinion. Opinions all around. I can have an opinion, you can have an opinion, and then I can have an opinion about that opinion, and then you can have an opinion about my opinion about your opinion. It’s opinions all the way down.
You sound opinionated. (That’s just my opinion.)
I don’t get why (it’s not unique to this forum) but folks seem to treat opinions and royal decrees or manifestos or something on the internet. Any stated opinion, no matter how innocuous, is treated as if you ended with “so kill them all!” So instead of a mild “oh, really?” you get everyone screaming like ninnies and the first person gets to spend a healthy chunk of his life defending a throwaway comment.
That doesn’t apply to this thread, as TonySinclair’s comment was clearly anti-Semitic. They shaved women’s heads in the death camps so he’s basically saying Holocaust survivors are unattractive. Next he’ll attack them for being too skinny, the sicko…
Way to go, now I’ll lose my basketball team.
This is what I’m talking about when I say the whining has become shrill. The OP got some negative responses, but were there really a bunch of posts “screaming” at him? And weren’t there a bunch of posts agreeing with him, at least partially?
No thread exists in a vacuum. Women receive unsolicited “advice” about their looks all the time. It is freakin’ annoying. And the OP got to a taste of that annoyance. Big deal! He has sucked it up on and moved on. Why don’t you?
