That’s all. Thank you.
In 1992, that was the hairstyle I wanted most. Never got it, only slightly regret it.
I think all people look horrible with one side of their head shaved. Or both sides. Or have a visible tattoo. Or have a lot of piercings. Or have a cigarette hanging out of their mouth. Or wear shoes without socks.
My opinion counts for little, in the grand scheme of things. I unfortunately have to live with things I don’t like.
I think it looks cool on some people (which admittedly, is true of just about every hair-style).
Its pretty dependent on what you do with the rest of your hair, though. Some people have the rest of the hair long and highly styled and then pulled to the side, which makes them look like chemo patients who haven’t noticed their wigs are stating to fall off.
We are sorry that not every woman lives up to your ideals on feminine beauty.
Besides; there are plenty women who can pull the look off; just do a google search for Natalie Dormer.
Fortunately, nature has equipped you with the perfect defense against things that offend your personal aesthetics. It’s called a neck, and you can use it to avert your eyes from the offending sight.
I believe the Biblically approved tactic is to pluck those motherfuckers right out, but fine. Heathen.
There’s always someone that can make a look work. I remember thinking back in the 80s that the lead from Bow Wow Wow could work a mohawk (being a Brit she’d have called it a Mohican, iirc) in the “I Want Candy” video.
I guess it is just a matter of what your taste and opinions are. It is ok to have your believe that they look horrible. I myself, think women who dye their hair weird colors are just wrong. Yes, I am talking to you Kelly Osbourne. I believe she is a very pretty woman, but when she dyes her hair that weird color, I do not like it. Same with Katie Perry.
On a side note, when I look back at pictures of me and my hairstyles, I cringe. If you ever have seen the show “The Goldbergs”, I could have been the Mom on the shows twin. Although, my hair was even bigger than hers. Aquanet anyone :smack:
Looking attractive is also not always the goal, in the same way that not every song is trying to be “pretty” or every movie is trying to be “exciting”. Sometimes a person is trying for “interesting” or “striking” or whatever.
I think it shows a deep-seating misunderstanding of women to think that being attractive is always their top priority.
I read this this yesterday. It’s appropriate here.
Believe or not, not all women base their choices on the opinions of men or anyone else. As hard as this is to believe, sometimes women just want to please themselves, completely independent of what others think. In fact, they may even know that they look ugly or unattractive to 99.9% of the world, and that’s okay. Because the remaining 0.1% includes them, and that’s all that matters.
Not true: No man in the history of hair has ever looked good in a combover.
But yeah, there are a few people who can pull off the half-shaved look. Not very many, so consider carefully before trying it, but there are a few.
I remember another time, I thought I was really radical. I was into David Bowie and Rod Stewart, and no one I knew ever heard of David Bowie back then. I had my haircut really short, one which resembled a cross between a Bowie/Stewart do. I loved it, and felt so free being able to express myself. I do not think many others liked it, but I honestly did not care, it was exactly what I wanted, and it actually helped boost my self esteem, to be able to do something I wanted, and not worry about what others thought.
I don’t think its THAT bad I mean some girls can pull it off, I remember asking my mum when I was 15 and into the goth scene for it. I am very grateful she refused
I feel this thread wouldn’t be complete without a picture of Natalie Dormer’s GQ photo shoot.
Upset she doesn’t care that you don’t like it, eh?
@Lakai I don’t think theirs anything terribly wrong? I think it makes her stand out more
Thought she was from Burma.
Of all the things people do to make statements or just please themselves, hair has got to be among the most dramatic and least permanent options. The way I look at it, it’s none of my business what you do regarding your appearance. But I can still think it looks silly or hideous or bizarre. And you don’t have to care about my opinion, but I’m still going to have one.
My youngest sister has gone from fire-engine red hair to light green. She said teal will probably be next. I think it looks goofy, but she’s 49 years old and she’s going to do what she wants, regardless of what I, our mother, or the rest of the world think. She’s a bartender, so it’s not like there’s a strict dress code at work - I’m pretty sure her style and personality bring in patrons. And I’m equally sure my opinion doesn’t even enter her mind.
Some people can pull it off, some people can’t, welcome to the allure of fashion.
That said, and while I think Gary Oldman is a phenomenally talented actor, I think even he might occasionally giggle at his “The Fifth Element” hairstyle. Persis Khambatta thought bald would work,
as did Sinéad O’Connor. Radio Host Samantha Phillips tried to rock the half shaved head look in Phantasm 2.
And who can forget Flock of Seagulls? …
In the age of digital photography, all that we can really do is smile & click.
