Women of the SDMB: Have you ever had an abortion?

Nope, I’m like 7Up.

Never had it. Never will.

If you’re referring to the situation you posted about a few months ago, personally, I don’t think of ectopic pregnancies as abortion. Considering that in an ectopic pregnancy the embryo is unfortunately doomed from the start, it’s not really like the mother has a choice about the outcome. It’s just a question of trying to minimize the damage done by the whole thing.

Leaving the hospital after my abortion was the closest I have ever felt to believing in a benevolent deity. It was like I had literally been carrying chains and someone took them off me. It was the most wonderful feeling this rush of freedom like I had ever experienced. Yes, I am aware that they had given me pain-killers, but there was something else. The victory of winning over my soon-to-be ex-husband and the triumph of being in control of my life.

As I said, I’m pro-life, but I agree with you 100%. Ectopic pregnancies sadly do not have positive outcomes (there can be no “trying” to save the baby, it cannot come to term, period. ditto molar pregnancies), so trying to minimize the damage to your body as you deal with a non-viable pregnancy that puts your health at risk like that is not the same thing as aborting a baby that could come to term.

7 Up Gold
7 Up Gold was marketed for a short time in 1988 as a spice-flavored beverage, similar to Vernor’s Ginger Ale. Even though 7 Up’s marketing slogan at that time was Never Had It, Never Will (referring to caffeine), 7 Up Gold did list caffeine as one of its ingredients. It was introduced by 7 Up in the hopes of capturing 1% of the cola market. However, it only captured one-tenth of one percent of the cola market apparently because people were confused by 7 Up marketing a soft drink with caffeine, and therefore it was discontinued. The 7 Up Gold recipe was actually an unused Dr Pepper invention.
