Women: Shoes, do you love or hate them, and how often do you wear them?

I only own a pair of sandals and some casual black shoes.

I hate shoes. I hate shopping for them. I hate wearing them.

In fact, I take off my shoes whenever possible. It is not unusual for me to walk around uni or sit in a lecture or catch a bus shoeless.

Like shoes - not love, not hate… just like

Prefer looking at shoes than buying them

Am barefoot unless made to wear shoes (work, etc). I do wear slippers to go downstairs to the kitchen because, being allergic to MILs cat, try to avoid getting cat hair on me at all costs.

I find that having large feet (US ladies 11, UK 9) makes shoe shopping quite difficult. It would be nice to just walk into a shop and buy any pair I like, but as it is I usually end up wearing men’s shoes :frowning:

As it is I have 1 pair of sandals, 1 pair of trainers, 1 pair hiking boots, 3 pair of dress shoes and 1 pair of slippers.

I hate to wear shoes. Never yet have I found a pair that is comfortable to walk around in all day long. (Including special orthopedic shoes!)

I’m a country girl. Unless going out in public, I never wear shoes. Nevertheless, I have a closet full of them, due to my endless, fruitless search for a comfortable pair. (At one point, I had more than seventy pairs.)

Love shoes - around 65 pairs currently.
Hate shopping for them - pointy toes are back in style - like rounded toes. Although I do go past shoe stores & can’t help but go in.
Go barefoot when possible.

I hate shoes.

I hate wearing shoes.

I hate shopping for shoes.

{Unavoidable anecdote} When I was in high school, someone went up to my dad and asked him if he had been having money problems (he’s a doctor. . . ). He said no and asked why, the man replied, "Well, its winter and I’ve seen your daughter walking around with no shoes, I was just a little worried. {/unavoidable anecdote}

For the record, I’ve only been kicked out of one restaurant for not wearing shoes. But now that I’m almost a grown-up (I graduate college in August) I wear shoes, just becuase that’s what you are supposed to do. I think I own about 10 pairs.

I dislike shoes, although I wouldn’t go so far as to say I hate them. I think of them as a necessary evil.

I HATE HATE HATE shopping for shoes. I hate shopping for clothes in general. I weigh 200 lbs. and look like two sno-cones stuck together with the top one upside down, so nothing fits - anything that fits my waist is too small in the hip, and anything that fits my hips gaps at the waist. So it is with shoes - I’m a 6 wide (6 1/2 for some manufacturers) with a high arch and thick ankles, so anything that fits around the ball of the foot inevitably is too long at the heel, and anything with straps at the ankle doesn’t close properly.

Given my druthers, I’d rather run around barefoot, but that’s really only possible inside the apartment, due to location and profession. :frowning:

While I like buying shoes, I don’t like wearing them. Give me a pair of flat sandals and I’ll tolerate those. Otherwise, I’m barefoot. I’m glad to see so many other barefoot people here. I was feeling like kind of a hick.

I like shoes but i only have one or two pairs that i ever really wear. I hate buying them because the ones i like are usually expensive and i don’t have a job so i don’t often have enough money. I never wear them around the house and i go barefoot even in winter when im home.

I’m never seen without my red trainers with white stripes down the side, even at school where you’re meant to only wear smart black shoes. I like my other pair (originally my school shoes) but they’re broken so they don’t stay on my feet when i walk. Very annoying.

I cared about shoes when I was younger. I would buy shoes, watches, and handbags galore. One day I realized I wore the same pair of shoes pretty much everyday, never carried a handbag, and was spending a fortune on watches. I bought one really expensive watch and am still wearing it 9 years later, I carry a backpack or over-the-shoulder carrying bag, and I own four pairs of shoes:

black Doc Martens that match every skirt and dress I own
green sandals that look good all summer
grey L.L. Bean all-weather shoes -far better than trainers
red sensible Clarks for most work days

Like most southerners, my shoes are the first thing I take off when I get home and the absolutely last thing I put on in the morning. I am barefoot now. Having a disgusting flatmate with a foot fetish and a tendency to drop food on the kitchen floor has curtailed my barefoot lifestyle this year, but as soon as he’s gone, the shoes/socks will be as well.

I once worked in a doctor’s office as a receptionist. There were two of us receptionists, and we never wore shoes.

To sum up, I see them as a bother. I will say, however, that when I do decide to buy a new pair of shoes, it takes me ages to do so. I have to love a pair of shoes to buy them.

The average woman has 29 pairs, you say? I have 24 pairs. Wow, I fit some statistics)!

Three years ago, I finally felt I was rich enough to get a regular pedicure. I even got a fake acrylic nail on my big toe. Yes, I am vain. I suddenly decided I had beautiful feet.

Deciding I had beautiful toes opened up a whole world of sandals to me that I had never before ventured in to. As I have narrow feet, sandals fit me better then closed shoes. Now I have elegant flimsy sandals, sturdy walking sandals - I love sandals!

So now when I buy shoes I stick to sandals in summer and ankle boots in winter. There is no point in trying something else. I know, I have tried.

Knowing my limitations, shoe shopping is now a neutral-to-nice thing.

At home I wear socks. And always clogs in the kitchen, so I won’t transfer a squished slice of tomato to the livingroom carpet.

I like shoes, but I really don’t like shopping for them. Just last night I was going through my closet. I thought that I had been pretty good at not buying new shoes in the last few years (when I was in my 20s I was a serious shoe addict, each new outfit had to have a pair of shoes to match, so I ended up with quite a few pairs) and I was surprised at all the shoes, sandals and so on I had purchased recently. It is probably around 10-12 pair right now.

I have to wear shoes almost all the time - I am the worst tenderfoot in the world. I feel really vulnerable when I’m barefoot, and don’t like it at all. I also hate the feeling of anything sticking to the bottoms of my feet. I have three pairs of comfy slippers I wear around the house.

How did I miss a SHOE thread?!

I love shoes. I’ve recently thinned out my collection, so I’m guessing I’m down to about 50 pairs. I have 5 pairs of DocMarten’s alone. Since moving to New Mexico, I’ve acquired all manner of sandals, flip flops, etc. I also have lots of pairs of cute, dressy shoes, boots with heels, etc.

I’d have to say I love shopping for shoes, especially bargain-shopping for shoes. This morning I was looking for a particular pair of black flip-flops and came across a pair of black wedge-heel sandals I bought last fall, never wore, and completely forgot about over the winter. Since I’m 5’9", I often shy away from wearing anything higher than 2" since I’m not particularly fond of towering over everybody. Day to day, I tend to wear comfy flats, like Docs, retro sneakers, or soft-soled black dress loafers. I save the heels for going out on weekends.

When I’m at home, I don’t wear shoes. As another poster mentioned though, it is irritating to have to take off shoes at someone’s house for a party, since a nice dress with stocking feet doesn’t look as elegant as a nicely coordinated pair of heels.

I don’t love or hate shoes. I’m indifferent to them.

Buying shoes is just a necessary chore that happens about once every two years when my loafer like everyday shoes wear out. I don’t love or hate the shopping for them. I go to Alamo Shoes in Andersonville in Chicago. They’re an old fashioned type shoe store who are pretty efficient, especially if you come in knowing what you want .

I guess I have maybe five pairs of shoes laying around.

I go barefoot at home.

Hey, this thread is 22 years old! How’d I stumble onto it?

You stumbled into it barefoot.

I have some boots older than this thread. So…

My shoes are pretty much all Skechers or New Balance. I have one pair of black flats for the very rare dress-up occasions (like funerals.) My feet go into socks and shoes after I shower in the morning and I take them off as I’m getting ready for bed. Going barefoot borders on painful for me.

I never cared that much about footwear - the phrase “Oh, look at those cute shoes!!” likely never crossed my lips. More like “Crap, I need a new pair of pumps.” Even when I was in the Navy and had to wear shoes with heels, they were the smallest permitted - I think 1.5"?? It was a long time ago. Nope, not shoe obsessed at all.

Basically I wear Tevas. A pair for yard/garden, a pair for walking, a fancier black pair.

Crocs.

I do say “ain’t those cute” usually to my girls showing me their new ones. Even if they’re butt ugly.
Ya know? No one wants to hear me tell my opinion on an item they pissed way too much money on. And, of course I have “no taste”, anyway.
