Women: What do you think of facial hair on guys?

I’ve been separated for over a year now, and I suppose I have every opportunity to reinvent myself physically, if I so choose.

Apart from a cheesy mustache in my 20s I’ve never grown facial hair. I have a pretty good hair-growing capability, but am not sure I want to go there.

I’m 52. What’s the scoop on facial hair at my age?

I can like any of them, depending on the person. Well, I’m not a fan of the full beard but my friend thinks this one basketball player (I couldn’t remember his name so I just googled “nba player beard” and it popped right up…James Harden) is hot and, it’s not my favorite look, but I guess he pulls it off kind of okay.

I think all men can pull off some of those looks, no man can pull off all of them, and none of the looks can be pulled off by all men.

There! Now you know just what to do. You’re welcome.

Is any option besides “Other” supposed to include stubble? Because I understand that stubble is a definite favorite among some women.

I’m not a fan of facial hair at all, a bit of light stubble is as much as I’m prepared to tolerate

A ladyfriend of mine expressed pleasure when I shaved off my mustache. Unknown to me the bristles were not pleasant at close quarters. Lesson learned.

I didn’t like any of it.

Until my husband grew a neatly trimmed full beard. Pure extruded testosterone, baby. Don’t knock 'till you’ve tried it.

I can only speak for my girlfriend, who has told me “If you shave my beard, I will shave your balls. With a straight razor.” Well, maybe not in as many words, but she really likes my big, bushy beard, with the sole caveat that I trim it so it doesn’t get too obstructive to my mouth.

Stubble looks good in movies, but at close quarters it can actually hurt against cheeks and lips, so be careful.

I used to like the look of a goatee (helpful list of terms) until a friend told me what she calls it. I’m going to spoiler this both because it is vulgar, and because it cannot be unseen. Warning: If you click this you may never respond calmly to a goatee again.

She called it a “pussy mouth” and truly, that’s exactly what it has looked like to me ever since. Hard to believe I didn’t see it before, really.

I don’t like the look of facial hair .
Hate 3 day stubble.

Wow, I’m a minority it looks like. Facial hair is a wonderful thing. I love beards in particular. Not ZZ Top growths, but full and manicured, yes.

If you naturally have a boyish face, a beard can make you look more distinguished and mature. My boyfriend decided to grow a beard after learning I liked them, and he’s received nothing but compliments. Although he’s in his early 40’s, without a beard he could be pegged for early 30’s. With a beard, he still looks young but there’s more manliness to his face now.

So I think you should try it out and see how it looks. Can always shave it off if it turns out to be a disaster.

Beards - especially those crazy unkempt, bushy ones - and mustaches are all the rage now, at least for the 25-35 age bracket.

I think it’s absolutely gross. I can’t stand them. I feel like big-ass beards make you look like you’ve got something to hide and it makes dudes look all the same. shudder do not want.

The 2014 MLB All Star Game was rife with them and it was gross. I couldn’t take any of those guys seriously.

Anyway, no one cares what I think. The age of this board skews a little older than me, but from what I can tell of the rest of the Internet and people I know my age and younger, beards are where it’s at.

Leaffan, knowing your intrepid and adventurous nature, I advise you to seriously consider sporting a one-of-a-kind asymmetrical beard.

I like neatly trimmed beards and/or mustaches. I think every guy looks better with a nice beard. But I don’t care for the mountain man look. As always, the growing out stages are a pain, but what can you do.

I thought I wasn’t into facial hair - mostly I like clean cut men. But light beards, a little more than stubble, positively make my knees weak. Yum.

For years, my dad wore what I think of as a sea captain’s beard. So long as it’s kept trim and tidy, I love the beard.

Your girlfriend has a beard?

“Full scruffy beard and mustache”

What about full beard with a clean upper lip, you evil heathens you? Just remember girls, Amish men can make things by hand the English need power tools to even get close to.

Anything except just a mustache. Those look absolutely rediculous. I love beards, though, as long as you can grow one that isn’t all thin and patchy.

I like a clean-shaven face in a man I’m dating, no matter what the Torah says, but as far as other looks in men I just happen to know, it’s really none of my business. Except the stupid chin diamond. I can’t stand looking at those even in men I’m just having a conversation with, or characters on TV. My BIL calls them “douche-tags.”

Who thinks those look good? It looks like you’ve been missing the same spot while shaving for two weeks straight. It’s the comb-over of facial hair.

I picked “clean shaven,” which is my usual preference. I also like stubble.

As for other facial hair…it really depends on the guy. I like a neat mustache/goatee thing on some guys (though not as much as clean-shaven)

I think Tony Stark’s weird little goatee looks amazing, but probably just on him. It would probably look cheesy on anybody else. :stuck_out_tongue:

Don’t like just mustaches (especially bushy ones or “pornstaches”) nor beards without mustaches. They gotta go together.
