Women: Where do you keep your birth control?

In the drawer of my nightstand, and I take it every night when I turn off the light to go to sleep. The superhero reminds me sometimes, since he has to take pills every night as well.

If I’m away from home (on a trip, etc.) I keep it in my purse and take it every night before I go to sleep. The only odd times have been when I’ve flown trans-Pacific or trans-Atlantic, and with all the time changes I’ve had to just split the difference mid-flight. It’s always worked out, and I’ve been on the pill for over 10 years.

I keep mine in my vagina.

I’m on the nuvaring.

I couldn’t remember to take a pill everyday for any reason, so I switched about 4 (?) years ago.

I use NuvaRing, and since PP gives me 4 months worth at a time, and it stores better in the fridge, it lives next to the jam and leftovers. When the time comes, it moves into my vagina for a while.

I keep mine on the shelf above my underwear/socks drawer. This way, every day when I go to get clean underwear I remember to take it. I’ve found that hiding it away from company/prying eyes only causes me to forget about it myself.

Somewhere on the sink, or in the front pocket of my backpack if I’m not staying at home for the night.

I keep mine in the cupboard above the sink, in front of the bread and next to the hot chocolate mix packages. I don’t like having it laying out for anyone to see, and although it is really out of sight - above eye level - I never have trouble remembering to take it as I make breakfast.

I was on Depo for a very short while but hated Hated HATED it and would gladly take a pill every day for the rest of my life than go through that again. (I know there are other options, but I’m fine with my little pills for now.)

Brr.

My wife keeps hers in her purse.

And there’s no way in hell she’ll forget… that’s just not her style. The worst that happens is if she falls asleep prior to her regular 10:00pm … er, feeding? Pill Popping?

But that’s what I’m for… to awaken her.

Let me ask, since we’re on the subject:

She is fanatical about taking the pill at the same time… so much so that she adjusts for Daylight Savings Time. This has caused problems because, as I’ve said, she does fall asleep prior to taking the pill during the summer.

For example, this year. Her iron pills began the week of DST and she was to take the first pill of the next cycle on the Sunday the time changed… no matter what I tried to tell her “Honey, just take the pill at 9:00pm” she literally waited the extra hour (10:00pm) to take her pill (adjusting for the time change).

Now, as I’ve said, she occasionally falls asleep prior to taking her pill.

The question is: is the timing so tight on these things that your body knows the difference between 168 hours and 167*, thereby increasing the chance of pregnancy if you take your first day’s pill an hour prior to your regular time? (And then keeping to that schedule?)

Er… I hope the above paragraph makes sense. If not, I’ll try again.

*The number of hours in a week.

Please tell me that either I’m misunderstanding, or you take it out of the fridge a good bit prior to use, because otherwise…yikes.

I’m not a pill user, nor do I have any need for contraception lately, but I keep a few condoms stashed away in the sock drawer, in case something miraculous happens and I actually meet a guy who’s not a slug.

Mine is on my ass and the rest are in the medicine cabinet in my bathroom. I use the ortho evra patch and I love it. You can’t tell it’s there unless your underwear catches it after you first put it on. You waer one for a week then change on your designated day and repeat 3 times and then you have a week off. Stickers on the calendar are the reminder of when to change/re-order and week off.

Actually, even right out of the fridge they aren’t really cold to the touch.

It’s recommended that you take the pill around the same time every day, but a few hours difference won’t really matter. I’ve been on it several years now, and in that period, I’ve varied my times by several hours, even missed a day or two. I try to stick to the same time every day, but if I sleep til 1, I just take it then and don’t worry.

Heavens! If the pill were that sensitive, I’d either have eight kids by now, or be on a first-name basis with the abortion clinic employees! I was on birth control pills for almost 20 years. During that time, I’d miss the dose by a few hours, and at times, even miss a day or two! But I know that without the pill, I was very, very fertile, because whenever I’d go off the pill in order to have a baby, conception happened pretty quickly.

What is the one thing that is always with me? my cellphone. So I simply have an alarm on my phone at 11.42 every day, this also gives a good mornings sleep on weekends.

Then however starts the race to find the pills itself!

Yeah, that’s what I thought. And told her.

But!

The instructions clearly state to be regular. And, to my wife, common sense does NOT trump the Instructions. EVER.

Not that it’s a big deal - we’ve been “accident”-free for almost 20 years now and I don’t mess with success. But I’ve always wondered.

Thanks!

I guess in my fallopian tubes? I had the tied, cut and cauterized. (The tripple whammy as my OB called it.)

But when I was on the pill, I kept it by the jar that holds my toothbrush and toothpaste. I took them at night, so brush teeth, take pill. I didn’t worry about if it was the exact same time each night, just before bed.

Am I the first person in the thread to use a thermometer for birth control? I’ve got my thermometer, notebook, and pen in my nightstand. Oh, and condoms right next to them. I now take my temp at night, as that’s the time when I’m most likely to have a few moments, at the same time each day, after doing similar activities (namely sitting on my ass watching TV for a couple hours).

JohnT, the regular (or “combination”) pill, with estrogen and progestin, has a pretty wide margin of error. I believe the instructions even say you can have unprotected sex if you’ve missed a day and taken two pills to catch up, as long as it wasn’t any longer.

The minipill (which uses only progestin) on the other hand, comes with STRICT instructions to take it at the same time every day. (Many women use the minipill during breastfeeding, as the combo tends to shut down milk production.)

Primary form of birth control is in my husband’s cut and cauterized vas deferens.

I’m also on “Yaz” birth control pills for hormone regulation… they live in my last-stop-before-bed dresser drawer with my two other medications I need to take daily. I just take them all before I go to bed so that nothing gets forgotten.

My pills are in my top bathroom drawer. I never forget one- I have been on the pill since I was 17 (I’m almost 40), so taking them is pretty ingrained!

Bedside table, on it, not in my drawer. Take it last thing at night.
