Women who wear lipstick: do you need a mirror to apply it?

If you are someone who wears lipstick that is a different color from your natural lip color (i.e., not Chapstick or colorless lip gloss), can you apply it neatly to your lips without using any mirror or reflective surface?

Just curious. This poll is of no importance whatsoever.

I do not need a mirror, whether it’s a lipstick or one of those wand thingies. I know where the edges of my lips are by feeling.

I prefer to see that I am not applying too much or outside the lines.
I don’t wear lipstick much, but I want it to look good when I do.

I don’t wear much of anything but lip moisturizer, but my MIL wore bright red lipstick everywhere, she put it on it the weirdest places, never used a mirror. It was hilarious what her lipstick looked like some days, It is a big family laugh point!

I said other because it depends on the tint. I generally wear one that’s about the color on my lips so I can get away without using a mirror.

I don’t wear it often, but when I do, the shade is usually very different from my natural lip color. For that reason, I prefer a mirror.

OTOH, I aspire to become that old crone with the obviously fake red hair and the fire engine gash of scarlet lipstick who kind of scares everyone. Maybe I should lose the mirror.

If you don’t look in a mirror, how do you know it’s neat? I was on a jury with a woman who applied lipstick every 20 minutes whether she needed it or not, without a mirror. She may have thought she knew where the edges were, also her teeth. But she did not. It looked real kinderwhore, and I bet she didn’t intend that.

I just asked the lil’wrekker, she said; usually not. She can do it while driving too! Aaacckk, I told her to quit doing that immediately!

I can do it on the fly if necessary without a mirror, but not the way I like it. The way I like it requires a mirror.

I voted “Yes”, I need a mirror, but then realized I’d never actually tried without a mirror. I made an attempt with a dark color so mistakes would be obvious. I was somewhat surprised to find that I didn’t do too badly. It definitely wasn’t as neat or precise as with a mirror, but at least I didn’t look like a toddler who’d gotten into Mommy’s makeup.

I doubt I’ll ever be in a situation where I both really want to wear lipstick and have to apply it “blind”, though. Some sort of reflective surface isn’t hard to find, and I don’t wear lipstick regularly anyway so I’d be fine with just skipping it if I couldn’t do it as neatly as I’d like.
