Make up inclined dopers: Lipstick or Lipgloss?

In general, I prefer lip gloss even though it’s kind of sticky because I tend to go with a more toned down look on my lips (I usually emphasize my eyes). I’ve been trying out lipstick more now. Dopers?

I don’t really like lip gloss because it makes me look all shiny. For me, lipstick is actually the more understated look. That said, when I’m trying to really glam out, I might do lipstick covered with a clear lipgloss. (MAC made one that I really liked, but I can’t remember the name of it now.)

What she said^. I don’t emphasize my mouth, either. I use a nude-ish or pink-ish matte lipstick. I hate stickiness on my lips, so I don’t use gloss. I love the Burt’s Bees tinted balms for a pop of color.

Gloss is a far too young look for me. Lipstick or tinted balm. My lipsticks tend to be pretty toned down shades to start with…I have a tube of red and a tube of purply pink - and probably a few more for those occasions where I might end up out dancing…but my day lipstick is a matte brownish pink.

Lip balm or gloss.

Lipstick honestly kind of skeeves me out. It looks so phony on me, and the thought of it being on my teeth or getting smeared out of place is just horrifying.
I bought some of those stay-put-no-matter-what lipstains a few years ago, but I didn’t like those either. They were so drying my lips shriveled up like raisins. Then I put the finish coat on, and I had shiny raisins! Then my raisins started to peel.

These days, if I’m desperate for a bit of color, I smudge with a liner pencil, then apply balm.

Lipgloss. Lipstick is usually too strong of a color for me, even if I use a subtle shade. I find a sheerish, nudeish lipgloss is the most subtle look for me.

I think it is the difference between the opaque look and the translucent. I prefer transluscent.

Yeah? For me it’s the opposite, but then again, I only buy lip gloss that’s somewhat sheer. It’s kind of hard to find sheer lip stick. Plus my lips aren’t exactly small, so I don’t want to walk around with a big, colorful mouth.

Yeah, I feel the same way. Also, I guess I usually buy lighter/pinker colored lip glosses, so maybe that’s it.

Yeah, my go-to lipstick is a color that is pretty close to the natural color of my lips, so it just enhances that natural color a little bit. When I use lip gloss, I always feel like I’m yelling, “LOOK AT MY LIPS!” However, I am more than willing to believe that I have just not found the right lip gloss.

I’ve found my perfect lip gloss…or I did, and it seems impossible to track down.

Like I said in a previous thread, lipstick alone is a good way to age yourself and since I’m not trying to look a day over my 23 when I’m out(for as long as I can, that is- ideally I can milk this into my 50s. I can do that, right? RIGHT?), I usually just do gloss on the day to day.

That said, sometimes if I’m meeting with clients, I do lipstick with a small amount of gloss over it. It makes me look a little older and more serious.

Gloss, if I wear it at all. I find it hard to find a lip product that doesn’t look completely fake on me. Or that doesn’t wear off so fast I’d have to reapply it constantly.

This stuff is actually my favorite, it looks natural and the color stays on for awhile. It’s meant for cheeks, but works anywhere else on your face, too.

TINTED lip gloss (CoverGirl ColorSlicks), the best of both worlds.

Chapstick, hands down, every single day. Though if I’m dressing up for something, I wear a nude pink lipstick.

Lipstick, when I can be bothered. I’m too old for lip gloss, having worn it to death the first time 'round.

Is there any lip gloss that is non-gooey? Probably not, but I’d wear it if it wasn’t so sticky - is there any type that is less sticky than the others?

I rarely wear makeup, but when I do wear lipstick it’s nearly always a tube of Shiseido Sheer Gloss that a more fashionable friend gave me a few years back. It’s sheer and not sticky, drying, or heavy looking. I’d recommend it to lipgloss fans who were looking for a lipstick.

Looking online right now it looks like it may not be readily available in shops in the US anymore, but it’s on the Shiseido UK website and there are places online that have it for sale. The Shiseido Shimmering Lipstick looks like it may have been intended to replace the Sheer Gloss, but I’ve never used it and can’t speak to its qualities.

I can’t do lipstick; it tastes funny and it feels too thick. I love MAC tinted lipgloss, because it’s more color than most I’ve used, but it still doesn’t have that lipstick texture. It also smells nice.

I’ve never found a lipstick that really works for me. I’ve been using MAC’s lipglass, the same shade, for a few years now.

MAC is getting a lot of love here–I tried a couple of their glosses but didn’t really like them all that much. I thought in terms of color they were a little weak.
