Green Bean’s pubic hair thread got me thinking about the subject, so I figured I’ll start a new one with a new topic.
I have one observation and 3 questions.
Observation: From looking at old drivers licenses, I’ve noticed lately that a lot of my blonde female friends were brunettes in an earlier life. They all have seemed kind of ashamed of the fact when I first noticed it, but I’ve never really had the gumption to really discuss the subject with them. Is this a common practice among most women? Are most blondes really brunettes?
This leads to a number of questions, specifcally about pubic hair:
Question #1 Does the color of one’s pubic hair always match the hair color on one’s head? Is the color of a woman’s pubic hair truly an indication of a woman’s (or a man’s, for that matter) real hair color (as I have heard before)?
Question #2 Is it possible to dye one’s pubic hair to match the color of the hair on top? If so, do some women or men actually do it?
Question #3 Here is one that I have wondered about for a really long time - does one’s pubic hair turn gray with the rest of one’s hair? I’ve ALWAYS wondered about this one, but I damn sure ain’t gonna ask my grandma or my dad. (though if my grandfather were still alive, I probably could have asked him with no problem), and I sure ain’t gonna go looking for myself…
Answer #1: Nope. I grew up a towhead blonde, but my eyebrows and pubic hair (when it showed up) were dark brown. The hair on my head has slowly been going brown, and now about halfway there has decided that it wants to be grey. The rest of my hair remains dark brown.
I have also known men who had red hair, blonde beards, black chest hair, and dark public hair. Don’t ask me how many of these men I’ve known.
Answer #2: Yes, with a reserved “OOOOWWWWWW”. Pubic hair isn’t that much different from say, beard and mustache hair, so it can be dyed. However, you’re around such tender areas that most styling professionals would say “don’t do it”.
Answer #3: I’m pretty sure, yes. All the rest of the body hair goes gray eventually, so I don’t see why not. If I ever get visual verification, I’ll let you know.
Many women were blond as children but their hair turns that “dishwater” color as they grow older. So they dye it. My daughter was very blonde as a young child and if she spends a lot of time in the sun and at the pool her hair will lighten up considerably. However, she has her hair “highlighted” blonde because the natural color is usually so drab. My son was also very blond as a child, now his hair is light brown. My son has no pubic hair but my daughter’s is dark, as are her brows.
I have always been a brunette with red highlights. I have dark brown eyes and have never even considered going blond. I’ve always felt that my eyes, brows and natural hair color is way too dark. I have seen women with my hair color go blond but I think it looks best if their eyes are light, green, blue, or light brown. pouka is right about men and their hair color, my BF has dark brown hair, red mustache, and dark brown hair everywhere else. He does get a redish blonde streak in the front of his hair during the Summer.
I had golden blond hair when I was very little; it has gotten progressively darker to a medium brown over the years. Now that it’s getting sprinkled with gray, I’m debating whether to color my hair or to go gray “gracefully.” However, I would never color my hair blond, because my brows are dark & I think it would look a little funny. Regardless of the shade of hair on my head, though, hair elsewhere on my body has always been dark.
I have noticed that a good number of older women color their hair blond to cover a full head of gray hair. My WAG, brunette coloring of gray hair doesn’t always take well, leaving the hair looking rather fake. Also, gray roots are far more visible with a brunette coloring job.
I agree with phouka about guys having variably colored body hair. I can think of at least half a dozen acquaintances whose beard or mustache is distinctly redder than the hair on their heads.
Funny you should ask about pubic hair… in this week’s “Men’s Health Column” at http://abcnews.go.com/sections/living/MensHealth/menshealth.html, it’s the first question they field. Apparently, pubic & underarm hair are the last to go gray, after face, chest & arms.
My hair is light brown. I put blonde highlights in just to give it a fuller color and make it easier to manager, plus it does hide the gray. I won’t ever dye my hair completely blonde for the simple fact that it rarely looks natural on anyone. I don’t have the time it takes every six weeks or so to have the roots done. It seems the more you dye your hair the darker the roots get, why I don’t know. I have mine highlighted about every 6 months.
I have seen many many many nekkid old people. (dont ask)
Pubic hair is often gray. On your 40ith b-day don’t look down there. The shock could lead you to buy a courvette and start crusing around colledges looking for young girls.
Just for the record, I was a towheaded blond as a kid, became a light brunnette (“dishwater”) when I grew up. It’s now almost comepletely grey. My beard is a mix of grey, brown and red. My pits&pubes have always been dark brown, with no sign yet of greying.
I have very strange-colored hair. I suppose the closest description would be “strawberry brown,” meaning that it’s brown with red and gold highlights, especially in natural sunlight.
My pubic hair is exactly like that, only it never really got “highlights,” per se, because it’s never exposed to the sun. So it’s basically just brown, but on the rare occasions when I’m naked and in direct sunlight, it’s red-gold-brown, like a muted version of the hair on my head.
A word on covering gray…I cannot speak for those who have light brown or blonde hair but for other brunettes…I use a semi-permanent over the counter color. It works wonderfully. Because it is semi-permanent it stays in for at least 6 weeks. It covers my gray (less than 50%) and does not dull my natural color, on the contrary it makes my hair shiny and very healthy looking. I do not have to deal with roots because it washes out gradually. I simply soap it in about every 6 weeks. I do have to deal with it being a little dark for about 3 to 5 days. That is because my hair is very dark brown but not black. Medium brown does not give me the coverage I need, which is what you normally do with a permanent color, go one shade lighter. There are several brands on the market right now by the different hair color makers. Loreal Casting is good but they do not give you enough of the product if your hair is thick or longer. So I use Natural Instincts by Clairol. I get quite a few compliments on my hair usually.
Public hair matches ones eyebrows, unless you dye it. My hair is blond, eyebrows and pubic hair, dark brown. I have a friend who’s hairstylist gives her a little hair dye to take home “A batch to dye the snatch to match”
Not always. I have medium-blonde hair and eyebrows, and darker pubic hair. I suppose sun-bleaching could account for the difference (I also have dark underarm hair and lighter arm and leg hair), but it doesn’t seem like eyebrow hairs last long enough to be bleached. Come to think of it, my eyelashes are also dark. Weird.
Count me in as another natural blonde whose only blonde hair is on her head. My eyebrows and lashes are stark black, and everything else is reddish-brown. But it’s interesting to note that my hair was dark brown until I was two.
Every hair that grows out of my body is red. I found my very first chin hair yesterday (yikes!) and it was red, too.
My great aunt told me that her pubes were still red when she was in her eighties. That was over ten years ago, though, and she hasn’t mentioned it since then. She might have gone gray in the meantime. Maybe I should call her and ask.
A childhood friend of mine had that pale blonde color of hair that is usually only seen in small children, except in his case, it never darkened. However, his eyebrows were black (not dark brown, truly black), and as he got into his teens and decided to grow a mustache, that came in jet black too. I have no idea what color his pubic hair was - we weren’t that kind of friends
It’s been my observation, coming from a family of hairdressers that also tend to go prematurely grey, that there are several reasons you see women who were once brunette covering their grey with blonde dye. First, it looks more natural to cover grey with a lighter shade on most women. Very dark shades look too harsh, because the skin tones also change as we age, they get more sallow. Secondly, like Fillet said, the grey or white roots show slower, and finally, a lot of women with naturally dark hair may have wanted to try blonde when they were younger, but didn’t want to go to the trouble it takes to lighten really dark hair to blonde, not to mention the upkeep and the damage it causes to the hair shaft. Grey hair tends to be resistant, difficult to dye anyways, but it’s equally resistant to whatever color you pick.
My hair was white-blonde when I was a kid. Now it’s a dark brownish blonde. My eyebrows are brown on the inside edge, and get lighter down to very pale blonde as they go out. My pubes are dark brown, my chest hair is brown, my arm hair is peppered blonde and brown, my beard is very light blonde with a few brown hairs here and there, and my eyelashes are dark brown.
I have a little rant. As a high school student, I am sick of seeing every gorgeous brunette dye her hair blonde. What is wrong with brunette… Brunettes are so much sexier, and don’t have the “bimbo” stigma of blondes. I can’t stand stupid girls though, and the thought of dating a bimbo is a huge turn-off to me. I have to be with someone I can have a real conversation with, and who can follow a simple chain of thought. Brunettes: be proud of your hair… let it grow long and wild. YOU are the sexy ones!
Now… I’m done with my rant…
Like I said above, I’ve always found brunettes more attractive. There’s something about the contrast between light skin and brown or black hair that I find very appealing. I myself have reddish-blonde hair and hazel eyes, so I don’t think it has anything to do with looking for homogenity.
ROTFLMAO! Sorry, I was reading this thread and came across this little gem. Thanks for the chuckle Needs. BTW, you shouldn’t be looking anymore if they are old enough to have pubs.
A few posters have mentioned how dyed hair can look “unnatural”. While I certainly agree (ever see a Japanese girl with blonde hair?) I don’t think that that even matters anymore-- we’ve gotten so used to the unnatural dyed look that some folks seem to like it more if it looks dyed. I’ve seen models (sorry, don’t recal where) with 4-inch brown roots, plain as day.
