Women's world cup 2019

Morgan is the queen of offsides. If not for that, France would really be hurting. Nice goal, but it didn’t count.

US wins.

Good game, I think France takes that 53 out of 100 times.

The rest of the world (Rebels) gets 2 more cracks at taking down the Death Star.

If you’re talking about the disallowed third US goal, they showed us the replay only very briefly, and the (US) commentators sure didn’t see the offside, and neither did I. After all the talk of VAR this tournament, why not review that, given that play is already stopped?

Glad it didn’t matter. Things looked shaky for some periods in the second half, and it certainly could have gone the other way, but the USA definitely earned the victory.
Tomorrow, I have two clear sides to cheer for: Sweden over Germany (because if Germany wins the whole thing they will tie us with 3 championships, plus it’s boring to see the same old teams in the finals every big tournament) (other than the USA of course) and Holland over Italy, because the Italian players are just insufferably whiney. Granted, that’s probably just rubbing off from the men’s team, but, come on, just look at them!

Morgan is offsides a lot. I’ve noticed that in other games. Thankfully, it doesn’t matter because she’s often not the direct recipient of the pass due to an intermediary being used. I yell at her to get back, but it’s like she isn’t listening.

Anyway, maybe it’s part of the plan to distract the defense.

I’d like to see Sweden and Netherlands win today’s games this too.

I read somewhere that the World Cup results are being used to determine who qualifies for next year’s Olympics, and that Europe can only qualify three teams. With England already in the semis (I assume that means Great Britain qualifies for the Games) the winners of the other two quarter-finals will also qualify, and France and the other losing teams will be out.

Kind of sad that the women only get 12 slots at the Olympics, while the men get 16, limiting Europe to only 3 spots (1/4 of the field). And really weird that Asia gets three spots (Japan as hosts, plus 2 from the AFC qualifying tournament), while CONMEBOL only gets one spot for certain, and plays off with Africa for the chance to have a second.

Ari Hingst threw down some world class smack against the Swedes on the Fox pregame show. She basically called them cowards and losers wearing a big confident smile on her face. It was German arrogance at its most powerful.

Especially since the women’s tournament is prestigious and nobody cares about the men’s tournament.

If Sweden holds on this is a fairly large upset and a good result for the US.

As a casual observer, I’m concerned about an emotional letdown for the US, and I see them as being vulnerable for an upset loss to the Lionesses.

Good call imo. England have a great defense and are technically better than us. We had better be mentally ready.

Seriously! Though they stepped it up from whiny to angry today. It’s like they had a contest to see who could get the referee most angry. Now, if so, there were several winners, as I’ve rarely seen a referee show that much emotion, but then again I’ve rarely seen so many players literally screaming at the referee after a well-deserved foul call against them.

I wonder
a) what are the referees like in Italy? Do they cringe, apologize and change the call if a player gets upset? Or what do they do to make the Italian players act like this?

b) How can the coach possibly think this is going to be effective? And if he doesn’t think that, why doesn’t he coach them into cutting it out?

Not really. The US got an early goal and set up more defensively. France was never really dangerous. The US was more dangerous in their counterattacks than France ever was. France’s attack kept petering out in the final third. That’s not domination.

I was one. But she was awesome against France (the whole front line played well). If she plays like this the next two games, she will deserve that Golden Ball.

Rapinoe not in the starting lineup. Huh. Can’t see if she picked up a knock or if it’s a tactical move.

They just showed Rapinoe on TV. While the rest of the team was warming up, she was standing on the field with no shoes on. She must have some sort of injury, but it looks like nobody will say anything until after the game.

She has a yellow card, doesn’t she? Given how much playing time she’s had, it wouldn’t be unprecedented to give her a rest for part of the game and then bring her on if needed.

Go Three Lionesses!

Well, Press for Rapinoe, not a bad start.

I’ll tell you who I’ve been most impressed with in this tournament so far for the US…Rose Lavelle.

Girl is a total badass on the field
