Excellent, a strike is the best thing they can do. Maybe players from other nations can join the strike to force FIFA and UEFA to sanction that pig. (or better, the male Spanish national team. I know, not realistic, but one can dream)
Now the Spanish Football Federation is going to take legal action against Jenni Hermosa. Why are they backing him so strongly? Or is it obvious?
Do they have evidence supporting his side of the story?
All they’ve said thus far is that she’s lying. From what I’ve read , part of their evidence seems to be that she lifted him up. Which to me means nothing-she was happy and lifted him, and then he kissed her? I’ve seen pictures that seem to show him with his feet off the ground, but she says she did not lift him. All of which has nothing to do with the kiss, of course. “Rubiales also told the assembly, that Hermoso “lifted me up” in a celebratory gesture, and he asked her for “a little kiss?” and she “said yes” So the lift could be true and the permission for the kiss a lie from him. Or maybe she thought he was gonna do a little cheek kiss?
And he’s calling the whole thing a “witch hunt.”
Personally, just the way he grabs her head when he kisses her is creepy and makes me doubt his story. Subjective, I know.
Need two upright male witnesses.
Asking for a kiss isn’t appropriate either. He’s the soccer president. Saying no can have negative consequences since he has control over whether she plays or not.
I looked back further, and The Athletic reported that until four years ago, there was a rule from the top that players were not permitted to lock the doors of their hotel rooms at night on international duty until the manager had come over and checked everything. That sounds super-weird. And there was another story about him seeming to grab a female coach’s chest. That one seems to have been overshadowed by the kiss.
Machismo is a thing in many countries, and the assembly might regrettably view this differently from the affected player and her team.
He gave a speech to them where he said he wouldn’t resign and got applause, so yes.
But there is progress, as FIFA has provisionally suspended him.
The Washington Post writes (see link)
FIFA on Saturday provisionally suspended the president of Spain’s soccer federation after he kissed a player following Spain’s World Cup final win over England.
The sport’s governing body [said] that Luis Rubiales, who has [refused to resign] despite international outrage over the incident, would be barred from all football-related activities at a national and international level for an initial period of 90 days. The organization [announced disciplinary action] against Rubiales on Thursday.
Really didn’t need to see that again.
Sorry.
Vilda’s entire staff just quit.
Let’s see if anyone else stands with them.
Spanish Coach Grateful That the Other Guy Is in Bigger Trouble Than He Is.
Rubiales’ mom is on a hunger strike to support her son. Yay for maternal love, I guess?
Not just on a hunger strike, but she locked herself in a church to perform said hunger strike. You could not make this up.
Wow, I missed that detail. Very old-timey.
If Rubiales had a lick of decency, he would tell his mother to stop that nonsense. But of course everything he did and said in this affair shows that he hasn’t.
