Wonder Woman question: Warning, open spoilers!

So, reading one of the most recent issues of Wonder Woman, in which she helps to re-order the pantheon. After doing so, Athena grants Diana a boon. Diana says, in essence, “You know what I want.” Athena refuses her. I assume it wasn’t something so simple as getting her eyes back. What the heck did Diana want? My first guess would simply be her freedom from all the deific manipulations, but I could be way, way off. Are there any insights available?

She wanted Athena to bring back to life the boy that Medousa turned to stone. Bobby or Michael or something, I can’t remember his name. He’s one of the sons of the bald guy who works at Diana’s embassy and was turned into stone while saving his brother from Medousa.

Okay, that makes sense. And I dig it. The pathos of the deity-wars is pretty much encapsulated in that boy dying saving his brother. Why Athena denied it to her I can’t quite tell, but it definately pulls into question why Diana defended Athena’s choice, seeing as it was all about deities who have or don’t have mercy / compassion. I’m waiting for the day the dam bursts and Diana just says, “To hell with all of you.”

As a side note, is anyone else getting a little… Annoyed… At the ‘all male deities are, perforce, evil’ tone that’s being set?

A little. Athena’s a bitch, too, but the men are being portrayed (in Zeus’ case) as outright psychos. And I’m not sure why all the gods were so intent on assigning Zeus the blame for what Hera did to Paradise Island.

I’m just sick of all the mythology in general. Wonder Woman isn’t Thor, guys! It’s okay to leave the mythology alone for a while (especially since Walt Simonson did a way better mythology-based storyline just before Rucka came aboard).

I too am getting a little tired of all the mythology stories, particularly since they’re so inconsistent in the portrayal of the gods. I don’t mind the modern style look to some of them but Hades looked…stupid. Is this the same guy who allowed Diana to see her mother, aunt and Diana Trevor after Hyppolota died?

Also, keep in mind that Athena’s response to Diana was that she couldn’t grant her boon yet. Suggesting there’s more to her plot and at some point she may be able to do so.

I think they all look kind of stupid, even though I like the modern portrayal idea in theory and I think they had kind of crappy designs going for them in the first place (and by that I mean at the start of Perez’s run, not, like, when the gods were first thought up). Marvel’s pantheons look way cooler.
