"Wonderfalls"

Good show… too bad about the death knells.

I loved it, I just hope it lives.

I loved it. Which means, of course, that it will not see a second season. (another clue, only 20+ people replied to this thread). What a breath of fresh air, for me at least. I don’t watch Joan of Arcadia, but from what I’ve read about it, I have the impression Joan would appeal more to a younger crowd, although I do like those types of shows. Wonderfalls has more adult dialogue and the protagonist is not cutesy or a “babe” – she’s attractive, but in a more realistic way – not made up, not flashing skin; she’s irreverent, sarcastic, jaded, and NOT politically correct. I liked her response to the bartender’s cell phone ringing: “Your ass is ringing.” And then a comment about why didn’t he have it on vibrate. A little dig there about cell phone users who have to make it a point that they have a cell phone. When talking to her gal pal (who’s a waitress in the bar), gal pal refers to “Native Americans” and our heroine interrupts sayaing “American Indian,” whereupon gal pal says American Indian without a pause, and goes on talking. The dialogue is spirited, fast-paced, witty, and realistic. I just know it’s going to be cancelled. :frowning:

I’m sorry I missed this show…not necessarily because it sounded good, but for the strange familiarity of a show set (just down the road from) where I live. A show set in Niagara Falls, what’s next? Steelton, PA? Youngstown, Ohio?

FTR: I’ve never been spoken to by a souvenir in Niagara Falls, though I have been spoken to by a slot machine there, but mainly to say “You lost. Play again.”

I liked it, loved the character. A little concerned that they “fixed” her relationship with her sister in the first episode, though. At this rate, she’ll be reconciled with her whole family in four episodes and – then what?

Of course, based on what everybody’s saying about Fox, maybe four episodes is all this show’s got to live . . .

Loved the show. I like it much better than Joan…

Liked it a lot, never have seen ‘Joan’, also was worried about the Friday night slot of death. My SO and I kept saying ‘Is the EPS guy’s name actually Poor Bitch’?
We watched it on Sunday - Tivo is my best friend and boon companion.

I liked it a lot and so did my GF, so we will be very sad when FOX kills it for “Celebrity Mud Wrestling 3” or whatever crappy show will replace it.

Should we start a pool on how many episodes will actually make it to air before it gets the ax? I say 7.

The winner gets to kick a FOX executive in the nards!

I skimmed the thread carefully because I don’t want to pick up any spoilers because I plan on making burundi skip The Apprentice tomorrow night and watch the rerun of the pilot with me.

Tim Minear is reaching out to fans of his previous work (follow the link), trying desperately to keep the show from being cancelled.

I’ll certainly give it a looksee.

To which I say, “Thank you, Left Hand!” I had grave, grave doubts about the show, despite Tim Minear’s involvement. But I really dug it. Jaye is a wonderful, reluctant heroine. She’d be a blast to hang out with. I loved her encounter with the horrible Texan hausfrau and her reaction to her new abilities.

Of course, this show has the life expectancy of a mayfly, so I’ll have to savor it while it lasts.

I saw it last night when they re-aired it. I enjoyed it, but it does have a surprisingly sharp edge, making me wonder just what the target audience is.

I watched the rebroadcast because I missed it last week (the timeslot is going to contribute to the show’s early demise) and I liked it. Actually, I may have loved it. I can’t figure out why…it could be that I wanted to like it to support Minear, but I don’t think that’s it. It was…fun. I liked the characters, and think there’s a lot of potential here. I just hope I can remember to set my VCR (I need TiVo) every Friday.

I watched the premiere of Wonderfalls, and liked it…but my instincts told me that they’d run out of plot within the year. Then I watched the re-broadcast. Still funny, but the shtick only has so far it can go before getting old. I’ve never watched Joan of Arcadia, but after growing up with Quantum Leap, I think I get the point. There’s only so much of that style that television viewers can stomach–even FOX viewers.

I think they’ll probably keep it on Television Life Support for another half-season, maybe a full season, but I’ll probably stop enjoying and watching it long before then

Isn’t it amazing how everyone who has responded to this show, both here and across the Internet and the mainstream media, are already resigning themselves to the show being cancelled? Is Fox aware of how little integrity it has to its viewers? Someone really should explore this topic in-depth; I’d love to see a journalist ask a Fox programming exec, “What does it say about your network that fans of your newest series have no expectation that it will survive?”.

There are a lot of those shows, in which the Powers That Be choose someone to “help others”, but ususally there’s a greater times span between them.

The Pretender satisfied post-Quatum Leap fans. The there was Early Edition in which a guy got tomorrow’s newspaper today, so he’d read tomorrow’s news to save people today…

Each “generation” has had a similar show, but presently there’s Tru Calling, Joan, and Wonderfalls? It’s getting crowded. Am I missing anyone? Although… the various networks were able to supprt all sorts of “magic” shows along the Buffy lines.

I have to say, I loved the cynical bent of Jaye’s entire existence. I just caught the replay of the premiere last night, and I’ve got the VCR set to tape tonight’s new episode. The dialogue is fantastically witty and fast-paced (as a Sports Night fan, I loves me some fast dialogue), and even if it is some bizarre combination of Joan of Arcadia and Tru Calling, I think it’s got more potential. I watched Joan for the first few episodes, but it quickly got too preachy for me, and I prefer the wax lion who may or may not be benevolent to the definite appearance of God.

And oh man, that monkey cracked me up.

I can’t help but remember how critics dismissed The Pretender as being Touched By A Smart Guy.
