A teenager wrote the best new pop-Christmas hook I’ve heard in years. Between the catchy tune, the beat, and the clever wordplay, I expect to enjoy this song during the Holidays for the foreseeable future.
It’s on Spotify but not Pandora, which I normally use. I may have to switch.
Damn, everything about that makes me want to watch it again and again-- the lyrics, the catchy tune, pitch-perfect message for 2020 without the risk of becoming dated, nice voice, killer sax, and cute video that captures our current situation as well.
All from a rando 15-year-old and her dad and sisters. I expect she’ll be on the Tonight Show, Today Show, Colbert, etc. by the end of the week.
I like how it’s clearly reflecting the loneliness of 2020, but it doesn’t go overboard with direct references that would make it dated in the future. Being away from loved ones on Christmas is a time-tested winning theme. “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” to “All I Want for Christmas is You” (both of them) the list goes on.
And I’m curious about the sax solo. I didn’t realize how many Christmas songs have one.
The song in my OP is blowing up. It’ll likely hit one million views today. Interviews on local TV news, writeups in local and national newspapers, and shoutouts from people like Ellen DeGeneres and the lead singer of Walk the Moon.
