So, how to respond to hate? Hate back? I’ve tried that, and it doesn’t work for me. But that’s off topic.

Lots of posters specified which hated group they belong to or have ties to; so it is clear which of their buttons were pushed. He sounds as personally angry as a member of a hated group (which, of course, he is, as a human, but that’s another off-topic). So I was curious which buttons of bobo’s were pushed.

Others in the thread told me he was particularly nasty because he was intelligent and could influence others. You say his writings weren’t very good. Well, I guess that’s not what angers you. That answers that question, as least as far as you are concerned.

Well, you picked one of the anti-ism I really don’t get. I’ve read posts in here about anti-semitism and still don’t get it.

I am not quibbling here, but please note the qualifications. And recognizing the roots of something does NOT validate it

As far as I can figure out 50 % of the group-based hatred in this world is based on the following reasoning (and I use the term loosely):
These people are different from me, so they must be wrong.
So I can be justified in taking economic resources from them.
Then it goes to: My group has done great wrong to this group; in order for my group not to be evil, this group must deserve it.

And then we get a cycle of rabid vituperative destructive self-destructive (et cetera) hate.

Which, back to my original point, I do not like.

Look, j66, we hate Pierce because we have empathy for those that Pierce wanted dead. Do you? Why in the world do you think it’s odd for white people to hate this man? I bet if you had lived in the 1850s, you’d be wondering about the motives of whites who wanted slavery abolished.

You don’t understand what anti-Semitism is? Good grief, kid, how old are you? Ten? Have you lived a totally sheltered life? Has no one ever told you that there are people who hate Jews because they (wrongly) hold them responsible for the crucifixion of Christ? Because they deludedly believe that Jews control the world through the mass media and Wall Street (something Pierce believed)? No one has EVER said this to you?! :rolleyes:

Let me tell you something else Pierce believed. On his internet radio program, “American Dissident Voices,” he said this about white women who date black men: “Why should I not be able to do what is right and natural and kill those who commit such an abomination?”

He accused Jews of destroying white culture and told his listeners, “We should be going from door to door with a list of names and slaying those who have engineered this assault on our people.”*

And you want to know why we hate him and are glad he’s worm food now.

What kills me about J66 is the whole “I don’t know nuthin’ about the guy, but I don’t know why he has you so riled up” stchick.

Once more J66: There are countless sites on the guy. THE TURNER DIARIES are available to read on-line (I can’t post a link. They’re offal, but they’re copyrighted offal and even though I’d be happy to rob him of income, the SDMB can’t officially agree), there are transcripts of his speeches.

Instead of mewling about how you ‘jes’ don’t geddit’, why don’t you learn something about him…read his works and find out why he hates Jews, blacks, interracial couples, homosexuals, etc insted of bleating about your ignorance.

There’s a whole wide web out there: Go, young Lochnivar! Go and explore the dark pits of evil! And maybe learn something while you’re at it.

I’ve come across those and other such stuff in my reading on anti-semitism, but the current form of an “anti-ism” doesn’t really help me understand its roots.

j66, this board is to fight ignorance. When you say that you know nothing about a subject, and why we feel a certain way, we are obligated to educate you directly or direct you to sites where you can educate yourself.

He said, repeatedly, that he would like to kill us all.
I don’t hate him, any more than I hate a sewer rat that’s infected with bubonic plague. I would have been quite happy to exterminate him myself, had the opportunity ever arisen.
