Woody Allen/Soon Yi--Creepy?

He was fucking and taking nude photos of his girlfriend’s 17 year old daughter, who was also the sister of his three children.

Icky to the nth degree.

Glad to hear it. My point remains that special needs kids in particular have a much lower chance of being adopted, and many of them never are.

Actually at the point Farrow found out about the affair, Soon Yi was 22. It was later revealed that the affair had been going on for several years.

Which is exactly what Mia did.

I think that hiding the affair was the worse part. I do have to wonder how Woody & Soon-Yi’s two adopted daughters will turn out.

By Googling a bit, I found out that Lark Previn, adopted daughter of Mia & Andre Previn, died last December 25th, apparently of AIDS-complications.

:frowning:

Creepy, but not Michael Jackson creepy.

That’s like calling something “Big, but not the entire universe big.”

And your point? :stuck_out_tongue:

Certainly not something I’d ever do, but absent evidence that Soon Yi was somehow forced into the relationship I find I don’t really care.

This is the creepy part. I mean… really? Adopting? Really?

I don’t get it. Is this just sarcasm? (No, I myself am not being sarcastic, I’m just oblivious today!)

The wife and I are big Woody Allen fans. The wife is possibly the only Thai Woody Allen fan in the kingdom. Soon-yi seemed rather normal in the documentary Wild Man Blues, although possibly that’s not enough to judge. Still, they seem happy now, and we love his movies, so we’re not going to lose any sleep over it.

He seemed to be trying to address the issue to a certain extent in Bullets over Broadway, when the Rob Reiner character kept harping on how “the artist creates his own moral universe.”

I think the inference is that he had sex with an adopted child, and now he’s adopting children … more fodder.

Bleeeegh.

In the universe we live in, it’s creepy.

Yes, Allen has made some very fine films, though his best work was a long time ago. He’s still a fucking creepy, family-wrecking asshole.

That’s the ticket.

I suppose they’re past the point of caring about giving the impression of impropriety, but still… bad taste.

It’s popular to say his best work was a long time ago, but the wife and I always disagree. Just this decade alone we have Anything Else, Melinda and Melinda, Match Point, all superior fare. We’ve not seen Vicky Cristina Barcelona yet but have heard good things about it. And usually when people say “a long time ago,” they’re thinking of 1970s-1980s. But two our favorites are Mighty Aphrodite (1995) and Sweet and Lowdown (1999), not to mention Bullets over Broadway (1994). He’s still going strong, and even his misses are better than a lot of what goes into the cinemas.

I meet really truly creepy guys fairly regularly over here. Admittedly, that may have raised my bar for what’s considered creepy.

Who approved the adoption? shudder

Weren’t there also allegations that he had molested his daughter Dylan? (Now called Malone?) The judge ruled that there was inconclusive evidence, but the relationship he had with her was pretty obsessive-and he tended to ignore the other kids.

Woody and Mia never lived together, and he never spent even one night at her apartment (they met at hotel rooms for privacy).

There was some very damaging evidence, but Woody denied it and once the judge denied him visitation with Dylan, stating an “inappropriate relationship” Mia dropped the issue. All she wanted was to have her daughter protected from Woody by the law. She wanted to have the legal and financial mess over.

I do think that Mia made the right decisions over that issue. When she discovered Woody had disappeared with Dyland during his supervised visitation and Dylan told her of the abuse, she immediately took the child to her doctor, who by law had to report the allegations. Mia did not report it. She sought medical confirmation of the sexual abuse.

All the screaming Woody did about adopted children being different from biological children during the trial–does that include his and Soon-Yi’s two adopted daughters? Are they his “real” daughters?
