The kids, though, have inherited my intense love of shoes. And there’s a Payless right near my house. Oh yeah. And there’s a buy one/get one half-price sale! Wheeeee!
They picked out their own shoes today. Dianasaurus Rex got a cute little pair of Strawberry Shortcake sneakers, and Johnzilla got a boss pair of Hot Wheels sneakers.
Total cost, about $20. Yay me!
Happy kids running around in butt-kicking shoes that’ll only fit them for approximately thirty seconds? Yay them!
Boy do we know that feeling around here. I only buy workboots once a year or so, and I spare no expense. They have to last and be comfortable besides.
But for the kids…yeah, the Payless specials can’t be beat. Fortunately, Sakura is buying a lot of her own clothes, but Halford the Human Eel[sup]TM[/sup] is still a growing boy. I seem to remember he had a pair of Hot Wheels sneakers a couple years back…Now he’s got a pair with little lights all over them that flash every time he takes a step.
snort Payless isn’t just for kids. I love going there; I can get tons of really cute cheap shoes for the price of one “nice” pair anywhere else. And since I work in aerobic shoes five days a week, I don’t wear “fun shoes” often enough for quality to matter. If the things fall apart in six months, who cares? They were ten bucks!
my girlfriend is a real shoe-lover, i generally do the manly “thats such a waste of money” thing and make her feel really bad about it.
I play the paragon of shoe-virtue and shoe-restraint - my trainers are about five years old now and i have a pair of “smart” shoes that i don’t really where.
BUT
i do take a secret pleasure in purchasing my “everyday” shoes though - about 3 months ago i bought a pair of goretex hiking boots for an obscene amount of money - ultra comfy, ultra durable, ultra black.
My husband buys combat boots once per decade and has them re-soled until I want to just burn them off his feet.
On the shoe freak scale of 1 to 10, I’m about a 7.5. I like shoes, but I’m so fussy, I rarely purchase any. I’ve got my eye on some close-toed ankle strap stillettos from Victoria’s Secret. I think I’ll order them tonight. They’re nice work shoes. For play, I generally wear boots, but I suppose I’ll have to find something more summery now that the weather is breaking.
Oh. Believe me, I know. I just happened to have one of my rare “goal-oriented” moments yesterday. It was a bear, trying not to purchase shoes for myself. This particular Payless happens to be the Payless from Heaven, I think. Not real big, but I can usually find precisely what I want inside of 15 minutes…at half-price. Oh, and the help at this store? Dear Goddess. Nicest customer service people I’ve EVER met…and I work in customer service myself!
I have been riding the Payless train the last couple of weeks. Ever since the spring stuff has come out I’ve been eyeing different styles in the store. But at most of these prices, its pretty much guilt free shopping. A good way to keep in the styles without breaking my budget over it.
For dress/work shoes: I have 2 pairs of black flats, 2 pairs of navy flats, a pair of loafers and 2 pairs of heels, black & navy.
I do have about 5 pairs of Reebok Princess sneakers floating around tho - I just bought a new pair & need to throw the oldest set out. Oh yeah - 2 pair of the cheapo canvas slipons - tho the old pair is gonna go any day now, too.
I agree with ** Politzania ** I don’t have the shoe-passion gene. I have 2 pairs of running shoes, both over 5 years old. I have 2 pairs of boots, 8 and 2 years old. Have 2 pairs of dress shoes, one pair is almost 6 years old, the second pair is about 2 months old and have yet to be worn. And I have 4 pair of military boots I wear while in uniform. (no I don’t wear all 4 pair at the same time)
those are pretty sweet. Can’t imagine paying $500 for boots though. That is just not in my reality. I can’t get the exact same thing at Payless but I’ve seen some that are pretty similar. And for under $30. Now thats what I’m talking about!
I don’t have the shoe gene, either. But, my GF certainly does! I don’t she’s ever paid nearly $600 for a pair, but that’s probably only because she can’t afford to. I did once pay $200 for a pair of handmade Italian leather dress shoes, though. Most comfortable dressy shoes I’ve ever owned.
This is kind of a hijack, but it’s related. If it doesn’t belong here, I’m sure you folks will all ignore me. My GF has this “thing” about “toe cleavage”. She absolutely will not buy a pair of shoes that does not display “toe cleavage”. (For the sane members, that means the crack between the big toe and the next toe.) She swears she doesn’t have a foot fetish, which is good, because I certainly don’t. But, she can’t explain her need for toe cleavage. Can any of you ladies? And, do you consider toe cleavage a must?
lol… wow. There’s an interesting question. I’m really pretty neutral on the toe cleavage thing. It isn’t really something I think about. But the name of it sounds kind of gross.
I picked up a pair of sandals at Payless this weekend that do indeed have toe cleavage. I’ll let you know if the extra cleavage gets me more attention from men.
