Breaking news:
So me and Kay went out last night. I get a call right before I head out the door that she is running about 15 min late. So here I am calmly passing my apt for 15 min trying to avoid my cat so I am not covered in cat hair when I remember that I live right above a flower shop so I head down and pick up some flowers. The flower lady kept trying to push roses on me but I thought that would send too strong of a message so I got a sun flower and some pretty yellow flowers.
Then I head off to her house using the only directions I had from Google Maps, way too efficient Google Maps. I did find her house but I had to drive on a dirt walking trail to get there but I made it on time so no big problems. About the time that I get to her house it starts to storm, thunder and lightning it was cool. When I hand her the flowers she blushes and says I didn’t have to do that. I told her that I lived above a flower shop and I thought I would be nice. She Let me go with that.
Since my car is a POS and she knew where we were eating we took her car. Dinner was nice. We ordered a salad bar and a meal but we started talking and forgot about the salad bar until the meal came. I did my best to keep eye contact but I felt myself starting to gaze a little too dreamily so I pulled back. I kept my manners and she actually ended up finishing first so I guess that means I wasn’t a slob. I did let her pay but only because that was part of the original agreement and I didn’t want to pull off some macho crap. I only smoked one cigarette all night and that was when she bummed one off me. All in all dinner was nice, I tried to keep the conversation on her while one in a while letting a little of my own story come through where we shared common ground.
The movie went well, we saw “Ocean’s 13” not a bad flick. I tried to keep her laughing while keeping talking to a minimum. I had trouble following the middle of the movie because she had these really cute laugh lines and I was starting to stare. I am bad at that I look like.
Then we went back to her place so I could pick up my car. I got a nice 20 second hug good night. I hind sight as the hug was going on, her head might have been heading for a kiss and I missed the opportunity but I think that is wishful thinking. I did manage to get and agreement to go for a walk after work sometime next week.
So I guess phase 2 begins. I am going to her place for the cast party. I am heading up early to help her set up. Hopefully I get can some alone time before party goers arrive. Since we will all be drinking I already got permission to crash there so I don’t arrested or kill someone. I don’t know if last night was a date but I might be getting closer.
So dopers how did I do on date # 1?

The flowers were perfect! You were absolutely right, roses would have been too much at this point, but the flowers themselves were a very nice touch - and they should help you stay out of the “Friend Zone.” Sapo is right about that - don’t hang around her too much or for too long without getting physical, or at least declaring your intention to date her. She might get too used to you being her “call him up when I have nothing better to do and he’s safe” guy.
