I’m frustrated to the point of shooting my laptop. I’m trying to type a recipe and the goddamn thing keeps putting sequential numbering in. I can’t figure out how to turn off this feature, since they’ve changed Word into this incomprehensible monster. HELP!
You mean it’s autoformatting as a numbered list? Autoformat is not a new feature of Word 2007, although it is quite hateful.
Each time it happens hit CTRL-Z and the autoformatting will be undone.
First, click the Office button, which is the big button with the multicolored interlocking squares on it. Click Word Options, click Proofing, and then click AutoCorrect Options. Somewhere in the ensuing dialog box is an option to turn off automatic bulleted and numbered lists. I think that should do it.
I’ll give it a shot. I know this feature is not new, but the menus on W2007 are completely alien to me at this point.
Yeah, it’s actually extremely annoying. As far as I can tell, they haven’t added any functionality; they’ve just taken the existing functionality and made it difficult-to-impossible for users to find, for the sake of… making things look “streamlined”?
I’m still using Word 2003, but I have heard that the new menus in Office 2007 do become easier and more intuitive after you’ve been using them for a while. Cold comfort at the moment, I’m sure.
Your instructions appear to have worked. MS has put in formatting right out of the box that is most annoying, including 10 point spacing after a “return”. Perhaps it’s because I bought the business version of Vista by mistake, but these are not normal defaults for most people.
