Word 2010: disable annoying little popup menu getting in way of cursor

I’ve reconciled myself to most of the new Word’s features, but this is seriously a pain in the ass. I move my cursor to a particular point on a document, and am about to hit a key, when that goddamned little mini menu I never use pops up right in front of the arrow and obscures my view. Is there an option to disable this?

If you mean the formatting menu that comes up when you select text, go to File, Options, General, and uncheck ‘Show Mini Toolbar on selection’.
