Suddenly I had little dots everywhere on the screen, which signified spaces. Unused to this, I found it annoying.
I seached the menus, esp. “View,” for a clue as to how to turn this off. I looked within “Help.” Nada.
Then I retraced my steps and found the answer: Apparently Command-8 (?!) moves the screen codes through various levels. Who’d have known?
I don’t know whether to blame Mac or MS for this (OK, let’s blame MS), but this kind of thing is just tiresome.
It’s M$'s fault, since it’s also possible to do the same thing on the Winderz version.
You do know you can customize the hell out of M$ Word, don’t you? If you don’t like a “feature”, such as “Show All” (which is the delightful little nugget you discovered) you can remove it from a menu, delete it from a toolbar and delete its key command. Of course, Word has approximately one and a half zillion commands, so it might take a while to go through and remove all their key commands.
“Show all” is what separates real writers from the hoi poli.
