I may be the only person on the planet to whom this happened, but: when I turned on the comp today (I use a desktop for this and pretty much everything else), and tried to open Chrome (I use both Chrome and Firefox, one for some sites, the other for other sites), I got a big EVERYTHING IS NEW AND WONDERFUL!!! screen.
Apparently in the process of trying to get rid of it, I “signed out of Person 1.” I certainly did NOT click anything that said “would you like to have all your bookmarks deleted, and all your cookies purged, so that your logins are all gone??”* If I’d seen something like that, I would NOT have clicked it.
Nonetheless, I lost everything. And naturally that applied to Wordle, too—there’s no login, as we all know, but if you change devices (which this apparently counts as), you lose all your stats.
So, back to Game 1—I was really angry but didn’t see anything I could do about it.
Later today I finally twigged that Google is holding me hostage—if I’m not logged in as Person 1, they can’t sell my info!!!
So I logged in as Person 1, and did today’s Wordle again—scrupulously typing in the exact same guesses and getting the same score. (Because I’m weird.)
Google, I really kind of hate you.

Saved by my ‘M or N or both’ rule. My first instinct was to try store but I switched to stone to include an N. Had I played store, I 100% would have guessed shown before showy.

Oh how frustrating! This is baffling though. Wordle says they don’t save the stats via cookies, though just in case, I added NYTimes cookies to the “save” list on my Google Chrome browser. I wouldn’t think updating a browser would count as using a different device…it shouldn’t. My Google Chrome had updated itself the other day as well, and I got that intrusive “welcome screen” too, but nothing was lost. Then again, I didn’t sign out, but that shouldn’t cause stats to be lost either I wouldn’t think.
Was your History cleared as well? If not, go into your History, and find a URL for a previous Wordle and open that. See if your stats are now there.
I don’t know if a system restore would work, as the stats aren’t saved on our computers, but if you lost your data due to the browser update for whatever reason, then it’d restore Chrome back to the previous version, and from there see if the stats are now showing up?
