Hitting three yellows in my first word did me no favors. At first I thought it might, if it had short circuited the formidable _ATCH trap, but no joy. And that wasted one of my already limited guess letters on a scrotty H.
Fortunately LOCAL positively identified the answer all by itself.

Had the L,A,C after 2, wrote down the 8 possible CVCVC (V=vowel, C=consonant) arrangements, and LILAC was the only thing that came to mind. Was far from sure that that was the solution, but I figured what the hell, it’ll at least narrow down where those three letters are, and will include or exclude I as a vowel.

Ugh. My blind spot for repeated letters made this harder than it should have been. After two, I figured it must be ?ILA? but couldn’t see anything. INLAY confirmed my suspicion, and when I finally saw PILAF, I thought, “That has to be it; there are no other choices!”
Since the L on the keyboard was already highlighted, I skipped right over it when trying to put words together. I need to get over that propensity.

I knew the third guess was bogus but I wanted to eliminate the other vowels.
I’m glad I found LILAC before I got to PILAF. I might have tried that one first if I’d found it. But I generally try to find a C, S or an L before an F. Worked out this time.
