"Wordle," a strangely compelling word game (Part 1)

Having the answer list (I don’t use it while solving a puzzle) I see that they have skipped over some Brit terms. A recent one was BOBBY.

Yesterday I completely inadvertently made a coherent sentence. (Puzzle #400).

DEPOT → 'Cause I’m a train enthusiast, and also DOPER was already excluded
SLOPE → Ooh, good guess! Must be a repeated letter…
ELOPE

@hajario : sounds like something a member of a revolutionary cell might say…

Probably because it’s a proper name, which was where it came from in the first place.

At word 3 I was in the exact same position as was RTFirefly, with “GLOVE, GLOBE, ELOPE” being the possible solutions I could see. Obvious tactic: trying one of the first two to eliminate the other, leaving ELOPE as the last word standing. So to speak.

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.

Can anyone explain the reasoning behind Wordlebot here? I don’t get the numbers.

"Your guess cut the number of remaining solutions to one. This is pretty good, but guessing

BIPOD or BINGO

here eliminates more solutions than your guess

PLUME

69 percent of the time. But you’ve narrowed it down to one possible solution. You should solve the puzzle on your next turn."

I’m not sure why Wordlebot says that BIPOD or BINGO are better guesses? I don’t know that I would have gotten the solution using either of those words.

This is the third trap in a row and the third six in a row. It made sense to play hard mode with only three possibilities after guess three, but it is still making me crazy. All I want now is just one five. I am tired of worrying that I missed something on the last guess.

I was real happy with my second word and thought I had a chance of getting it in 3, but I then had a list of four words I felt it could be (Bloke, Globe, Glove, Elope), unless I was missing something. And Globe could rule out three of them, so it was the best choice for my 3rd guess. And that’s what happened…so Elope it was.

EDIT to add: Ok, now reading the comments for today’s game, I see that Bloke was an answer word previously. I wasn’t sure if it would be considering it’s “informal British”. Doesn’t matter as I wasn’t going to play it over Globe, and that word ruled it out. But it just goes to show, we can’t make assumptions on what Wordle decides for answer words.

Certainly not a CINCH for me today. I generally don’t mind the first guess or two eliminating letters, but having only a single misplaced I after three was rather frustrating. Fortunately, it came together in time. But not my favorite game experience on this one.
ETA: SHIFT would have been a wiser guess than SWIFT. There are probably better choices that that too. So I admit I made my own bed by playing a little too fast and loose. Not that big a deal though.

I forgot to post yesterday’s. No comment on tomorrow’s.
