There has been one plural in the solutions since this thread started, FEARS. It’s also a conjugated verb, which someone else (perhaps in the other thread) theorized would never happen.
So far since we started this thread, only four of the solutions have had a repeated letter, which comes out to about 1/6.
The vast majority of solution words I’ve tracked so far have been nouns, some of which can work as verbs. There’s been a smattering of adjectives, and only one ‘pure’ verb that can’t work as another part of speech,
This was me, too - for about 35 minutes. I was playing in Hard mode, so had to come up with a word that would fit with two known letters in 2 fixed positions. And for the longest time I simply couldn’t find one. Thus, no way to make a legal move.
After almost half an hour I encouraged myself with the idea that surely if I found a word that fit, it would have to be the solution. And so it was, not too much later. On the bright side, I got it in 3 total tries.
@Newtosite, what was that puzzle number and/or your current date when you did the puzzle? We need to know when it’s safe to unblur your spoiler, and that answer is different for everybody based on their timezone.
To see what the puzzle number was, the easiest thing to do is click the “share” button then paste out what’s now in your clipboard. That’s how people are getting all those awful games of Tetris. You can also see the puzzle number in really tiny faint text in the lower right hand corner of the settings page, you get there by clicking the gear icon.
Yes I know that, but I don’t want to be spoilered by looking at the actual word list. I’ll take the info that was gained “legitimately” through playing the game.
I think there’s a pretty low probability of that word being in the solution list, but after my 2nd guess I worked out the tree and using that as my 3rd guess guaranteed me a solve on the 4th guess,
Not too bad today. Four guesses seems to be the norm for me; I’m not too bothered about how many it takes as long as I get it, and I haven’t missed one yet.
I had been using STARE but it was pointed out that O was a more common vowel in the game’s word set. Which saved me from then guessing TANGO for guess 4.
ABBEY → good start from yesterday’s word, now KO some common letters
SALTY → found where A goes, try T at start TARDY → Matter of time now TACKY → Still not worried, I promise TANGY → Ah, the sweet & sour taste of success
I think of this one as the reverse of the previous for me, in that here I started with 1 hit and 1 near miss, which made it less cryptanalysis and more word guessing very early on. But it was harder to guess from 3 letters to 5 with fewer letters eliminated. I pretty much didn’t worry about vowels in this one since I started with A & a terminal Y.
