That is cruel luck. This is not only a personal loss for yourself, but also a community loss.
I started with music, which gave me the first vowel. I got tripped up with the _unky possibilities, and picked funky and junky as my last two. I thought about the winning word, but rejected it as not likely enough.

I saw the _UNKY words. I decided to try one of them. It would show that it is one or them, or give information about U and Y., I picked the _UNKY word that had the most common letter (I think) and got lucky,.

Went from having little to go on after two guesses, to having it basically nailed after three. Having the H rather than the K kept me out of the _UNKY trap.
While HUNK is certainly a common word, I rarely if ever see its adjectival form. So I’d question whether the solution itself is a common word.

Well that was unexpected! Of all the words I could have picked somehow got it in two.

My standard first word is ORATE . On the very rare occasions that this is all grey, I go for PINKY , where I was two stops away via FUNKY . Quite lucky, really.
Drumroll, please:
(Though I feel kind of bad posting this now after @EllisDee’s excruciating news. Sorry, ED.)

My 200th sure wasn’t a gimme. I thought it was going to be JUNKY, but wasn’t confident enough to plunk it down over the four other possibilities (B, P, G, or H). Took a while to cram three of those consonants into a five-letter word. It wasn’t a six, but I felt like it was a “Phew!” moment regardless.
Another 4 person, me.

Sorry, @EllisDee. Will you begin again tomorrow? You have a good average, at least!
Congrats, @Wheelz! Carry on.
It is quite common slang here in the UK so perhaps a holdover from the original pre NYTimes word list?

That makes sense, then. Wardle’s from/on your side of the pond, and I’ve noted a number of solutions that are words rarely used in America but have a definite British feel to them.
AFAIK, the list hasn’t changed other than to remove some solutions that the NYT felt were objectionable, most famously ‘penis.’
LABEL → Nada. Nada?
ROIST → Again? At least I’ve eliminated nine letters. Which vowel is left?
PUDGY → Both of them. OK. What pair of consonants goes between U & Y?
MUCKY → Got one of them. Middle letter must be an N, so… two possibilities left
FUNKY → Not that one. Try the last one…
HUNKY
It wasn’t until I saw @EllisDee’s post I realized I had missed one other possibility. Wish I could transfer my luck to keep that streak going!
Amazing!
An inauspicious start for tomorrow’s.

Well, that was a surprise! I was trying to check the U and Y and wasn’t even sure that’d be an answer word, especially given it’s considered a slang word. Nice to get a 3 for a change too.
