A lucky first guess helped; my disinclination to waste a letter (given that TREAT has that repeated T) led to a 3 instead of a 2. Still, only three minutes, so: works for me.
I like the idea of WHIRL! (And will probably give it a … well, you know.)
After 2 I saw haste immediately, then noticed paste, taste and waste. I discarded baste as borderline for the answer list, but in hindsight that is probably a valid answer. If that were the answer I would have still gotten a 5.
After my 2nd word with getting 3 yellows and the T in green, I thought I could get this one in 3-4, but then I saw I had four words to choose from (not sure if there were more). It was just a matter of rolling the dice what order to play them (one was ruled out after my 3rd word).
SLANT
TASTE (and into the -ASTE trap, with BASTE, CASTE, PASTE, HASTE, WASTE on tap!)
WATCH (for CASTE, HASTE, WASTE)
WASTE
Ending a nice streak of 3’s, but I’m really the play-it-safe type: I would rather limit the possible outcomes to a 4 or 5 than have them fall in a range from 3 to loss.
I was playing too fast. Saw WASTE and BASTE, but I missed seeing TASTE, HASTE, and CASTE. Whoops; that could have gone very wrong. I’ll call this a lucky three.
TREAT → No repeated T, and a good start. Will this be easy?
BEAST → Up to 4 letters. Still nothing placed yet STALE → Got the E placed. Am I in a trap?
PASTE → Yes I am! OK, no BASTE or TASTE at least…
HASTE → One guess left, gotta try WASTE
I didn’t even see CASTE. The non-rhyming thing. A lot harder in the end than I thought it would be.
