Like a few others here I had the thought ‘Aspenglow’s going to get it in one, today!’—but it turned out to be another “_ RATE” word. After IRATE I came up with CRATE, GRATE, and PRATE. CRATE had already been a winner, so I went with the next in alphabetical line.
After my 2nd word, I had a list of four words it could be (irate, orate, grate, trade), and to guarantee getting it in 4 tries, I tossed down a perfect sleuth word that would tell me exactly which one it was. Worst I could have gotten is 6 if I hadn’t done that, but I much prefer a 4.
GLORY → Good start. Maybe even a great start. Hmmm… I need to check E, A & T anyway, so… GREAT → Curses! Foiled by a combination anagram/homonym! GRATE
I try never to beef about a 3, but when I was so close to a 2…
I would probably fare better if I were more strategic in my choices early on, but I quite enjoy just picking any old word with enough vowels and fixing the damage later on. I seem to be doing OK.
I wasn’t being terribly careful this morning, but each step got me a little closer than the last, so it wasn’t too frustrating.
For what it’s worth, Scoredle says my third, fourth, and fifth words were all the “best” choice. I guess if there’s such a thing as a good five, this was it.
Nah, I have a system of sorts. I work them the same every day. It generally yields results. I suspect we approach the game in a similar way.
It’s another 4 day!

And if I’d have checked the “already used” list before trying AUDIT, I’d have known it wasn’t a possible for today. I think I’m going to have to start doing that so as to not waste a try.
We veered a bit today and got it in three. I know there is a list of previous solutions, but I spend just a few minutes on this while waiting for my water to boil so I can make coffee (french press in case you were dying to know
I have a different philosophy regarding the used words. I like to approach each day’s puzzle as a distinct event, and referring to a list of already-used words - while I won’t go as far as to say it feels like cheating - seems to take away from the accomplishment of solving it.
(I’m not judging anybody. It’s just a game; it’s meant to be fun. Everyone should approach it in a way that is fun for them.)
I decided to go with a slightly different second word than my usual CHORE. My thought was there wasn’t really room for a CH or TH or similar combo, so I’d be wasting the H. Took me only a few minutes to think of CREDO, which basically swapped the H for a D, and I was really glad I did, given that it narrowed things down to AUDIT (nope, already used!) and…what? I must admit it took me most of the day to finally see the solution.
ETA: My take on past solutions is that, courtesy of when you could still play all the old Wordles at various sites, I know or have known every Wordle solution so far. Of course I’ve forgotten most of them by now, but all 463 Wordle solutions to date are still in my brain somewhere. Keeping a spreadsheet of them is just a way of keeping track of what I already know. But to each their own; I’m just saying why I’m personally comfortable with maintaining and using a list of past solutions.
Sometimes I’ve got it all worked out before I’m halfway through that first cup of coffee in the pre-dawn darkness, but if I’m stuck, I’ll set it down and come back to it later in the day.
My coffee machine is a Cuisinart grind-and-brew. Put in the water and the beans the night before, hit the button in the morning, and it grinds the beans and makes the coffee from those freshly-ground beans on the spot. That way the flavor is still locked up in the beans until right before the coffee is brewed, and at least to me, that seems to make a real difference. The beans I use are pretty run-of-the-mill stuff, but the coffee tastes great.
