You’d think ?O?N? would leave a lot of options on the table, but it turns out, not so much. I had to stare for a while before I thought of CONIC and IONIC. Kicking myself a little because I almost chose IONIC first, but my gut told me to switch to CONIC at the last second. Stupid gut.

After BOING I got to the 45 minute mark–my personal limit–without thinking of a plausible 3rd guess fitting the parameters. So I got NONIS from a list of ‘5-letter words with O as the second letter’ (I scrolled down to the N’s since I had an N, O, and I to place). NONIS is a kind of evergreen bush, apparently–and highly unlikely to be a Wordle solution–but I figured it would narrow things down, as indeed it did. TONIC was out due to Guess 1; SONIC had already been a solution; and I thought of IONIC (and didn’t think of CONIC).
