I had 4 of those possibilities left with 2 guesses remaining. Fortunately I am unfettered by hard mode rules, and so I found a word that was guaranteed to resolve which of B, C, H, & M was the remaining letter: COMBS. Serves me right for opening with lazy, inefficient guesses I suppose, but did manage to preserve the streak.
Wordle 483 4/6* 10/15/2022
FLOOR → That’s… disheartening.
STEAM → Got two, unplaced. Not a lot to go on… do we have an I?
ANTIC → Hmm, A before T, C after, still an H out there… uh oh, I have a trap. _ATCH, with B, C, H, P and W still in play. No way to play a test word on hard mode, so… I got lucky with a double letter yesterday, so I’ll try one (of two to chose from) today…
CATCH
I wonder what Wordlebot would say about my luck today… at least I had already eliminated L & M.

CATCH
“CAMPY,” of course, was the test word for the _ATCH trap. Luckily (as mentioned upthread) HATCH and WATCH had already been solutions.
For some reason Discourse isn’t letting me quote Aspenglow’s post–the one with the additional verses:
If one is not
A clever snot
Anyway: surely if we submit all these to the NYT we may expect to see them printed…
I am grateful just to have solved this one today. I. Am. So. SICK!! Effin’ COVID jabs.

It could have gone much worse.
No doubt.
Your cynicism is undoubtedly well-founded: the Times is NOT going to print anything that could lead people to laugh at their bot.
RESPECT THE AUTHORI-TIE OF THE BOT!
What, no discussion of whether ‘natch’ is really a word? It’s in my ancient American Heritage dictionary - listed as slang, of course, but it’s there.
Maybe I’ll try it out as a starting word one of these days. If I used ROLES as my second word, that combo would have the same ten letters as my usual two starting words.
Well, in my case it was moot because I’d already ruled out N.
I thought I’d played already, then found out I hadn’t.

I’m getting a trifle annoyed with the doubled-letter words, and non-too-happy with the words that have about 10 different options for the 5th letter. [grumpy]

SLATE
COUNT
CATCH
luckily COUNT gave me the 1st letter and I avoided the _ATCH trap. The 1st 2 guesses showed that the T had to be the 3rd letter since there are no 5 letter words starting with CT. So it had to start with CAT, it couldn’t be CATTY so CATCH it was.

Well, that was a fortuitous start word…could only be one word from there.

Picked the wrong day to try NATCH and ROLES as my starting words, rather than my usual SLANT and CHORE, which would have given me S_A_E in position, rather than having those three letters but no idea where they were. Anyway, Wordle accepts ‘natch’ as a word, and my curiosity probably cost me a 3.
